DEMON KNIGHTS #1

Set in the Dark Ages of the DC Universe, a barbarian horde is massing to crush civilization. It’s fallen to Madame Xanadu and Jason Blood, the man with a monster inside him, to stand in their way – though the demon Etrigan has no interest in protecting anyone or anything other than himself! It’ll take more than their own power to stop an army fueled by bloodlust and dark sorcery, and some very surprising heroes – and villains – will have no choice but to join the fray!

  1. Paul Cornell is doing exactly what I like by tying stories together. After reading his Stormwatch, I think this is my most anticipated book this week.

  2. I was really looking forward to this, but I’m a bit worried now, considering I HATED Cornell’s writing in Stormwatch…let’s see if he can impress me with this title.

  3. Please get more pulls than fear itself.

  4. I didn’t love Stormwatch #1 or the Doomsday story in Action Comics, but the Lex story in Action was great. I hope Cornell makes this pretty cool.

  5. Pre-Wednesday favorite for my POTW.

  6. Dammit, I didn’t want anymore DC books after last week’s animal man, swamp thing, and stormwatch, but it looks like I’m getting another one. Damn you DC! I have too many books as it is!

  7. I loved Stormwatch so much! This seems to be a lot different though, but I have confidence in Cornell. And why does he always end up getting good artists?

  8. Ouch!…After last week’s Stormwatch, I hope to have better luck following this one without having to read it three times and do research on the characters just to follow.

    Looking forward to this one!

  9. IT GETS ON ISSUE TO IMPRESS ME AND THATS, THAT!!

    just sayin’,

    K

  10. Man, I hope the art doesn’t suck shit like in Stormwatch.

  11. This is the book I know the least about and am looking the most forward to, all on the strength of Cornell.

  12. That cover is all that has me really interested in this one. I do loves me some Etrigan.

  13. Cornell is hit and miss with me right now. I thought his arc in Batman and Robin was dumb, but Stormwatch surprised me. Here’s to hoping I wont feel like I flushed 2.99 right down the drain!

  14. Went to two shops this morning…both sold out.

Despite this being on my pull list, I still didn’t get it. Lame.

I will be buying it digital instead, but I would rather have a print copy.

  15. Fantasy… in the DCU? SOLD! 🙂

  16. Excellent.

  17. Merlin is a dick and Paul Cornell writes fun comics.

  18. I found it a good comic, but I probably won’t be reading it monthly. I’m kinda burned out on the whole Samurai Seven idea, but anyone who likes demons, magic, and evil baby killing bad guys will have a blast with it I’m sure 🙂

And yes, Merlin is quite the jerk.

  19. “then, let’s do what we always do . . . we find the source of the problem and we throw dragons at it”

i knew that if i waited long enough, the Cornell i loved from M:13 would return again. i was mixed on Stormwatch, but, i thought that Demon Knights was a lot of fun. can’t wait to see where it goes next. first book from my stack that i read this week, and it immediately became the title to beat for my pick of the week — though that Batwoman was pretty great too . . .hmmm, may be another week of tough picking . . .

  20. THIS WAS CRAZY! I am just so glad DC is taking bold directions with books.

Still not sure what exactly I read, but I know this is going to be such a different book and totally refreshing.

    TOTALLY IN!

    • That’s what I thought the entire time I was reading it. How cool is it that a book like this even exists? I can’t think of anything else like it. It’s crazy but ties in so many things, it’s genius. 5/5 and POTW contender.

  21. Excellent. I really loved this. I love the team that’s building. And the art…come on. That was a beautiful book. I’m all in for this series. Early contender for pick of the week but I’ve got a lot of books to go.

  22. more please. now. kthxbai.

  23. What the what?! How did Cornell manage to squeeze this much awesome into a mere 20 pages? My theories are true… His is, himself, a dark mage from beyond our dimension!

This… This was so much fun I’m not really sure what to do with myself. If it weren’t for Buffy this would have run away with the POW, no contest. As it stands, they’re gonna have to duke it out.

  24. Welp. That was freaking awesome! Did not expect to like this but ended up loving it. Well done Cornell… well done.

  25. I picked this up on a whim, when my LCS was out of Daredevil. I have absolutely no familiarity with any of these characters. So now I kinda feel dumb because I didn’t really know what was going on. I;m going to give this another read through tonight before I make a decision on it I guess. Maybe I wasn’t in the right head space. (I had just read Buffy prior to it so there’s that y’know?)

  26. Wasn’t going to pick this up. But I’m in.

  27. Much better book by Cornell. After the disappointment that was Stormwatch, I was hesitant to still pick this up. Glad I did, though…I’m in for at least the first arc.

  28. Did Paul Cornell ever write for Saturday Night Live? Because there is BRILLANT comic timing going on in Demon Knights. I don’t normally laugh while reading comics (In fact, I think the last time I did so was back in the 80’s while reading Justice League #8), but there were a couple of times here that a chuckle came out of my mouth.

  29. This was one of the best!! 4.

    Just sayin’,

    K

  30. I’m baffled by the love for this book. Really, folks? It’s the first 1 rating I’ve ever given to a book on my pull list. Sorry, I just don’t get it. It was incomprehensible; the tone was all over the place. Was this serious or slapstick?

    • I gave it a 2 for the same reason, but I’m not sure why it’s getting the love. It may just be that there are alot of Cornell followers or adventure / D&D lovers at the site.

I re-read it and it made a bit more sense, but it still felt like a bunch of light introductions and not very good ones jumping around all over the place. In my opinion, readers should be able to enjoy this for about 13 issues or so like Capt Brit and MI 13.

  31. I’m in love with this book already! I can’t wait to see swords verses dinosaurs next issue. 2 questions though: Are the two foreign members new characters or someone I should know. I got that the female was an amazon but that couldn’t be Wonder Woman right? And second, can I change my rating number? I meant to pick 5 but hit 4 by mistake.

  32. Picked it up out of Curiosity and I had a blast, this is staying on my pull list
