Two weeks into the bold DC experiment, and I have to say, so far my only major disappointments have been the two Paul Cornell books that I was really looking forward to! While this isn’t as bad as last week’s Stormwatch, I still found very little here to enjoy. Once again Cornell has taken characters I like a great deal (last week it was the Wildstorm characters, this week Etrigan and Madame Xanadu) and basically wasted them on a book with little or no plot, drama or characterisation. Maybe this will take a couple of issues to warm up. Unlike the irredeemable Stormwatch, which I dropped like a hot potato after the first issue, I will give this one more shot, because I thought the art was ok and, hey, next issue: LOTS OF DRAGON FIGHTING(!), but two issues is all the chance it’s getting to impress me. There are too many other books fighting for my hard-earned these days!
