  1. Since Marvel has spoiled everything, the only reason I’m getting this is to find out what happens to Bucky

  2. What an amateurish solicit. This continues marvel’s weird new trend of "Finishing a mini-series in a one-shot" that I’m not happy with. And that’s without even mentioning the "final" part of the story coming out before the last issue of the miniseries it’s finishing. Alas. Here’s hoping Bucky takes Steve to school.

  3. Bucky should just hand that shit to him.

    End of story.

  4. Very lame the way these are all being released.  The overall vision of the Marvel Universe coming out of ‘Dark Reign’ is a complete cluster#&$%!!!

  5. I’m hoping Bucky remains as Captain America.

After the fall of Norman Osborn, maybe Steve Rogers will get a promotion and become head of SHIELD.

  6. So…uhm…is this Reborn #6 or is this a epilogue that’s being released…before…the climax…of the…uhm…series?

My sympathies to Brubaker and company, but seriously, this is why you don’t put Hitch on anything that involves continuity.

  7. I am so confused on why Marvel didnt post poned this.

Okay so you can’t do that to Iron Man, or the annuals that spoiled it already. But why release this!? Is it really that big of a deal to hold this out for another month? Let it come out the same week of Cap Reborn #6!

Plus I know the cover has ‘The exciting finale of Cap Reborn’ on the cover which is hilarious but frustrating at the same time.

  8. Is there going to be another one-shot called "Sharing the shield"?

  9. @AmirCat Yeah! Monday,Wednesday and Friday: Steve – Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: Bucky. And sunday, they rest (or Isaiah).

  10. @ Simon: They split it every other Sunday.

  11. To everyone who thinks marvel spoilt this series. well, the joke’s on you – i actually end up with the sheild. a very strange twist indeed

  12. I’ll pick this up when #6 of Reborn comes out and read it in the proper order.

  13. This seems as good of a place as any to ask…

I’ve been wanting to jump on Captain America for awhile, but much like the problem I have with most 5-ish year runs, part of me wants to start from the beginning instead of picking up a random issue.  So I guess my question is, while I know the Death of Cap stuff is great, would it still be that worth it to read the entire run, or is it more like Green Lantern where you can read Rebirth and SCW then jump on whenever?

  14. @Simon @supertrackmonkey – It’s really about who gets the shield on weekends.

  15. I’m hoping this is 22 pages of a custody hearing for the Shield. Bucky tells of how Steve was an absent father, Steve claiming Bucky recklessly leaving firearms around. Then there is crying, hugging, and an agreement to do what is best for the shield. Then, just when it looks like custody is worked out: Boom, the shield files for emancipation. Court room erupts in confusion. Issue ends.

  16. Don’t want to support this book even though I want to read it. Will only make the purchase if people are saying it’s the best issue of the year.

  17. @Ruo21 – Agreed!!! Marvel has effed with my enjoyment of this whole story.  With such a mammoth week for books… I’d rather throw my 4 dollars towards something else. Bah Humbug!!!

  18. For an "event" I couldn’t care less about this, and I’m a guy that bought the Captain America omnibus. MEH.

  19. I didn’t start reading Captain America until he died in issue #25. Never liked the character until I read issues 1-24.

I recommend picking up the new Cap Omnibus. Probably cheaper on Amazon than picking up all the trades.

If you like that, go back and get the first Cap Omnibus. It is a great 25 issues.

  20. @Slockhart – Start at the beginning.  The first 24 issues were phenomenal and really made Bucky.  No Cap book has ever captured me like those early issues.  As mentioned, you should be able to get the Omnibus for $45 or so which covers the first 24 or 25 issues.  It’s so beautiful, I sold my trades and picked it up even though I have the singles.    Trades may be cheaper and should be readily available.

  21. Its funny how negative everyone is pretending to be about this considering it has almost 400 pulls already…

  22. you know, I really don’t think I can add anything to this thread other than FUCK YOU, Bryan Hitch.

  23. @USPUNX- 400 pulls – 19 people that have commented = 381 that have not expressed their opinions

  24. @USPUNX I’ve been very critical of the main mini the entire time. Also number of pulls does not equal a quality assessment.

  25. @Prax – Regardless of the quality, people are still shelling out $4 bucks. Even if they bitterly resent it, espcially if they bitterly resent it, I’d say the joke is on them.

  26. It is what it is, get the fuck over it.

  27. just because I want to read the story does not mean I am not annoyed by it being late despite at least 4 other comics hinging on it being finished

  28. Although I do agree with the fanboys about the art, Reborn has been good so far.  No reason to think this won’t be good.  Cap is one of the few Marvel books I read because it’s one of the few that I like.  It is rather funny to hear all the bitching from grown men though.  If you don’t enjoy something, don’t buy it.

  29. What the …  ?  ! What? But, isn’t Steve Rodgers Dead?! This is an amazing turn of events indeed. And how does Edward (see above) end up with the shield? I’m stunned.

  30. I’m getting this but I think I might just not read it until after Reborn #6 comes out.

  31. Maybe they should cut the shield in half. So then both Steve and Bucky get a piece of it.

  32. Going to pick this up for sure but will most likely read it after reborn finishes even though it has already been semi spoiled in other books. But ill wait to see what the ifanbase says after this comes out to decide when to read it.

  33. @denverdave: that’s the thing. how i ended up with the shield is all explained in captain america rebirth #6. however, if you read this issue that plot development will be spoilt.

hey, are you going do, huh? write joe Q an angry letter? politely explain why this is annoying and you demand some respect and understanding after purchasing a considerable amount of marvel’s product?

idea’s like these are just one reason why i recieved the shield

  34. I say if you shelled out the $20-30 to get the whole series, then you may bitch and moan to your hearts content. You paid for it. And enough with the "If you don’t like it, don’t buy it" counter-comments. We all buy things that we don’t completely enjoy for a variety of reasons (mostly dumb reasons, but there you go). Besides writing Joe Q directly, creating negative buzz is about as influential as you can hope to be. But let’s not kid ourselves. The end result of negative commenting is really just the release of pent up frustration. Its personal therapy.

Now trolling if you are not reading the book… That does grate a bit.

  35. @JimBilly4: that’s a fantastic point

  36. @Slockhart: Like someone else who posted, I didn’t start reading till issue 25 either. 25 had actually been out  for like a month, THEN I went back and read it. I really enjoyed the series a TON from about issue 26 to 38-ish. THEN I went back and read 1-24. And then my interest in the series peetered (yes, peetered) out around 49. The ideal way to read a series like this is to start at the beginning, but I didn’t do that and don’t feel that my enjoyment suffered at all. Like I said, 26-38 were the issues I read first, and they happened to be the storyline I enjoyed most of the series. Bottom line, just read whatever the fuck you want and don’t worry TOO much about ideal starting points. Even for a cohesive series like this, it’s not THAT big a deal. It’s not like you need the "perfect" circumstances of reading or else you won’t "get" it, y’know?

As far as spoilage goes, like I said, I started by reading 25 weeks after it came out. I think worrying about spoilers is way overrated. It’s not a mute complain, but I think being spoiled/shitty publishing schedules take a far distant backseat to whether the comic is actually, uh, good or not. As a fringe Cap fan who’s been sitting the mini-series out, I’m way more interested in hearing about whether or not this was a good story. Hopefully it’s better than what I’ve heard about Brubaker’s Cap since I checked out on it six months ago.

  37. Has any hero "rebirth" been notable?

  38. @leonard – Jesus’s was pretty memorable.

  39. @leonard  Hal Jordan.

  40. yo, dis is bull,

buckey is ten times the captain cap ever was…

cap is too old, he needs to crawl back into the grave where he belongs.

  41. I just don’t know what to say about this. It seems like everytime Marvel does something that throws their universe upside down they do something to off the wall and "FIX" it with a rebirth or brand new day or something that just winds up sucking in the end.

  42. I wonder what comics would be like if nobody ever came back from dying?

  43. @Diabhol: i think they would be better.

  44. They had the rings for blackest night, what if siege comes up with shields?

Can’t there be 2 Captain Americas? Cpt. East and West Coast?

  45. @NathanNicdao: Or how about Captain North America and Captain South America…

  46. I’ve liked Hitch’s art this entire time, I just don’t get why it takes so goddamn long.  and seeing the story unfold the way it was meant to is a far different experience than getting little snips and pieces.  will it be better or worse? who’s to say.  we pay the same price to experience the story out of order as we would to experience it in order.  however, we don’t get to choose how we want to read this because Hitch can’t draw on time.

and a couple more things to base my point on: 1) I’m going with Darwyn Cooke’s theory that there is NO reason for an artist to not be able to draw a monthly book. and 2) I’ve been reading since issue #1, so I have a right to bitch about Hitch.

  47. @abirdseysview-You can bitch about Hitch, Van Sciver, Quitely, etc all that you want.  It won’t change anything though.  Those artists are ‘A list’ they are made men who will get the work that they want.  Artists of their notoriety willl still get the high end work because they dependably and reliably make the companies money and that is all that matters to the companies.

  48. I don’t want my bitching to change anything as much as I don’t want people to post that I shouldn’t by it and bitch about it at the same time.

  49. @MisterJ – They also get work because, despite all the bitching, more people still pull their books then their less-talented-but-faster-draftsmen counterparts.

  50. @supertrackmonkey: holy crap! who named the two continents? It was all planned out!

  51. Captain Americas: Hemisphere’s On Fire!

  52. What I’m wondering is this: will people buy this and wait till Reborn #6 comes out? Or will they read this as soon as they get it and not wait until #6 comes out?

  53. Chris,

I’ll read this now, then read #6 when it comes out. Over the last 20 years I have had read many, many issues out of order, so this doesn’t seem like the biggest deal to me.  I do understand the frustration, though, since this could have been handled better by Marvel.

By the way, I love when you comment because Hank Scorpio brings joy to my life.

  54. @AmirCat: amen!!!!!!

  55. Did anyone else think there was something creepy about the scene at the end where Steve’s back in his room talking to Sharon? Something off about this book art-wise. Just awkward in parts like this.

  56. @JaqueNargg: Yeah, I thought she was dead.

  57. @whoever removed my comment about this issue: you mean to tell me that you dont edit out all this profanity but you removed an opinion I can only guess was taken down because it was political?

  58. Read it… enjoyed it… and I haven’t read any Cap Reborn.  I will definitely go back and read the trades.  The art was a bit wonky at times… especially the last page (she did look dead).  That said, Brubaker’s writing was really great and pulled me right into the story.

  59. @boostergold4: That is correct. No politics, no religion allowed.

  60. Ahhh Censorship in a Captain America thread!  God Bless us, Every One!

    Oh noes, I said God!!!!

     Delete in 3..2..

  61. @conor: wow…all I want for Christmas is freedom of speech…or should I type X-mas to stay with a comic theme.

  62. I don’t give a fuck if Reborn 6 is late, I don’t give a shit that other books (including this one) "spoiled" Cap’s return. This issue was excellent; one of the three best books this week.

  63. As much I have liked Reborn, this was much, much better. Even after Marvel botched Steve’s return, this issue showed just how important it is to have him back. Can’t wait until Cap #602 (finally).

  64. I too thought Sharon might’ve been dead.

I just loved the whole discussion between Steve and Bucky. Really good character piece that still moved the story forward.

  65. @boostergold4 & Fractal514

You still have freedom of speech, just as the iFanboy staff have the freedom to remove comments they deem inappropriate. Don’t blow this out of proportion.  Think of it this way: if you left me an inappropriate comment on my Facebook page or somewhere, it’s not censorship for me to remove it; this site is like Conor & the gang’s Facebook, except they actually own it and have all the more reason to keep its high standards in check.

That said, *goes on a political and religious rant that manages to be offensive to everyone*

I cannot believe that I at one time thought Guice was to blame for the erratic nature of Reborn. I so wish he was drawing that mini instead of Hitch.

  66. There aren’t too many comments about the actual comic here, but the ones that’ve been added all seem very positive. I had a different reaction. I thought it was unecessary for the recap to provide a complete synopsis of reborn through issue 6 of Reborn since it hasn’t been published yet. I also thought that the art was uneven (Bucky looked like he was ~50 years old in the NA hideout, and several panels were duplicated/magnified and creepy – yes, Sharon looked dead). And the concluding storylines felt trite and plot-driven (Steve/Bucky & Steve/President) vs. character driven. If President Obama distrusts Osborn why does he still have a job? This was lame filler moving us to the next inevitable event, and although I liked the fight with Hyde, overall I thought this was pretty unimpressive.

  67. Marvel has managed to kill my interest in Captain America, again. After this retreading the old "Skull wants to get Cap’s body" routine we are going to get to deal yet again with the "deranged 50’s Cap".

I have read all this before.

Even the "Bucky returns from the grave" was a revisit of an old concept.

At least with Barnes as Cap we had a potential for new ideas.

Adding the Nomad co-feature for a buck extra will make Reborn #6 my last issue on this run.

  68. @capbastrd: I can understand what you are saying, but my point was just that "in my opinion" Marvel is using Cap as a means to state their political views.  It was not a rant, and contained no profanity. I was surprised and disappointed that the guys pull the comment. Cap is a political character, so I am not sure how you can dismiss politics with a character such as this.

  69. @boostergold4: I didn’t see your deleted post but I do see your point. This comic book features President Obama being critical of a previous President’s acts and congress’ law, referring to a storyline that Marvel described as containing takes on the Bush administration’s “War on Terror.” It seemes natural that a conversation about this comic would contain politcal discussion. It’s like have a ban on sports talk in a blog about a Raiders game. But my, what snappy dressers they are!

  70. Who ever let Cap Reborn be extended to 6 issues (thereby spoiling the conclusion to a years long epic storyline) should be smacked in the face.  They could have concluded Cap Reborn with iss 5. Maybe if all the repetitive lost in time-space Cap stuff was cut down a bit, it would have sped up the story. I’ve been umimpressed with the mini so far, but I enjoyed the WWWTS one-shot. It just goes to show what a great character Steve Rogers is, and how Bucky will never measure up to that.

  71. I wonder what Cap’s opinion on abortion is? if marvel published that little nugget people would lose their minds. He’s from New York so he’s likely to be an progressive lefty intellectual and very pro-choice.

anyway, bucky really did look like he was 45 years old in this issue, very strange. And i know steve and Bucky are from the 40’s but do you have to give them ridiculous haircuts? i get the feeling Sharon and Natasha would take them somewhere to get a good hair cut (man, where is this going) Imagine, that Bucky and Steve rock up to a boutique lady’s hairdresser. How uncomfortable would they be getting their head’s messaged and being asked if they would like a coffee?

ok, forget that, i know why they have 1940’s haircuts

  72. @rwpos: lol

  73. Well, that was a pointless issue.  Nothing that couldn’t have been delayed and an exercise in treading water.  Who will wield the Shield?  Well, this issue doesn’t tell you.  It just wanders around the point.  The Reborn mini has been nothing but a knife in the body of the ongoing Captain America storyline to get a "big name" artist on the book.  Regardless of how ill suited he was and his career of lateness.  This "special" just continued that trend of editorial interference in an effort to make more money.

  74. @AlanMac  um, i’m pretty sure this issue made it clear that bucky will have the shield. there was that whole thing where steve handed it to bucky, then the scene where steve tells the president he won’t be captain america anymore.

maybe i’m retarded but that doesn’t sound anything at all like wandering around point

  75. i must say i also love how siege is out before reborn is finished… plus there is a sinking feeling that i will be re reading this story *cough* morrison
