BLACKHAWKS #1

Welcome to a world waging a new kind of war that’s faster and more brutal than ever before. It’s fought by those who would make the innocent their targets, using computers, smart weapons and laser-guided missiles. The new enemy is hard to find – and closer to home than we think.

Between us and them stand the Blackhawks, an elite force of military specialists equipped with the latest in cutting-edge hardware and vehicles. Their mission: Kill the bad guys before they kill us.

  1. I wished I liked this and wanted to buy it, but those character designs are pretty dodgy. Will wait and see what people say about it.

  2. If this book turns out to be what I hope it is, than I may be dropping GI Joe down the road. The idea of a GI Joe style team working in the super hero world gets me very excited. I have liked Mike Costa so far so I have high expectations.

    • I was thinking the exact same thing! I don’t feel as excited about the Joe books ever since the break and the Cobra Civil War started.

    • Ditto! Because of people raving about the Joe books it got me exited about all the possibilities that this books and Men of War could have at DC.

  3. I wasn’t planning on getting this, but i just discovered how awesome the IDW GI Joe books are, and the Don’t Miss podcast did it’s job once again, so I’ll be sampling yet ANOTHER new 52 book. Thank goodness I just started a good paying full time job, or I’d be screwed.

  4. It sux, Lashley already has a fill in on issue 2. He’s so awesome, but its impossible for him to do even the whole first storyline, let alone issue #2. Oh well.

  5. As long as the art is good I am in. I have been a fan of Blackhawk since the 70’s and very glad to see this relaunch.

  6. Can’t wait! Hoping this one doesn’t get overlooked by folks this week! Like the previews I’ve seen on other sites.

  7. Eh… on the fence. The art looks good, but war/spy comics have never been my bag.

    • I thought the art looked really bad. I like Costa’s work on GI Joe, no, I love it. But the sketchy art drove me away. I don’t know if it was Lashley’s art (not really a fan) or Nolan’s art (I thought he was pretty good back it the day, haven’t seen him in forever), but it looked real scratchy and bad.

Sometimes a book’s art pulls you in but the words make you come back for more. In this case, the art pushed me away before the words got a chance.

  8. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I dug it. Definitely in for issue 2.

  9. Not for me.

  10. Wasn’t sure what to expect. Enjoyed it quite a bit. I believe I’ll be sticking with this for the foreseeable future.

  11. This was a bit awkward as far as pacing but I’m interested. There were some great ideas brought up and I like the general premise of a secret agency fighting behind the scenes in the DCU.

  12. The surface tension of the water thing was very cool, and very Costa!

  13. Honestly this seems like it could be a really good book, but it is just not for me.

  14. Very solid. I think this is the DCU’s long awaited answer to S.H.I.E.L.D. Now if they can get Checkmate back on track and strong I will be a very happy camper.

  15. as someone with a strong Irish heritage should i be offended by that painful stereotype? what if the shoe was on the other racial foot?

  16. 3 for this book I liked it towards the end the begining was a little confusing to me.

    Just sayin’,

    K
