  1. While I’m not 100% into this event just yet (it’s perfectly enjoyable and fun, but not mind-blowing), I really enjoy the fact that it comes out bi-weekly. I’m excited to read Hickman’s take on a lot of these characters!

    • i have polorized opinions/criticisms regarding hickman’s work. i’ve never seen him work with this characters and i have to admit, i really curious to see what he does.
i, too, am not a 100% into this. bendis’ and brubaker’s issues were good. aaron’s (and, premature as it may be, i’m betting fraction’s) is best served as toilet paper.
to me, hickman’s the only wild card. oddly i have a good feeling about him.
      ugh….feelings.

    • *polarized*

  2. I’ve only read one issue. However, I’ve really been enjoying this. The team ups and the conflicts are a ton of fun. In fact, that was my favorite part about the Avengers movie. All the various pair ups are so much fun!

  3. After issues 0 and 1 I was totally pumped for this event! I was all ready to give Marvel another chance.

Now a short time later I’m bummed, feel like most of the crossover issues have been worthless, and don’t know if I even want to read this anymore.

    • do what i do. only read the main event and say FUCK the tie-ins.

    • I have also been skipping the tie-ins. Sounds like I haven’t been missing anything.

    • Na the wolverine and the x-men tie ins have been great, secret avengers so far not so much

    • Wolverine and the X-Men is the one tie-in book I have really liked

    • Definitely pick up Wolverine and the X-Men #10. There is a great walk-and-talk scene with Wolverine and Cyclops that you shouldn’t miss.

    • The tie-ins arent worth it. I’m not going to buy 10 comics that I normally don’t read just to understand what’s going on in one book. The only AVX tie- in I’m getting is Avengers Academy because I always get that every month. Same with the court of owls. I only read 2 bat related book and am not buying ten others just for the sake of The Night of owls or whatever it’s called. The only good crossover out right now is The Culling.

  4. This continues to be good fun. Looking forward to more.

  5. Its fun but still nothing of the scope of Civil War.
Honestly, marvel, Please let Dan Slott write next years big event himself! Guy is so under rated. Spider Island was stellar.

  6. Kinda looking forward to this. I feel that the only writer to really take advantage of the format and deliver a balls out fun issue so far was Aaron’s #2 issue, so let’s hope that this is on the same caliber.

  7. I have always been a DCU fanatic and they will always be number #1 to me until the day comes where they really screw up their entire universe and kill off all of their great characters. Now with that being said; Marvel has always been #2 and that’s mainly because they were the only other comic book company I really knew of until my high school years. By this point mini-series and maxi-series really started to become the new thing and continue on until today where there has been some questionable events, series or what ever you wanna call them. I will say this takes me back to the more inocent times of the events, mini’s and/or maxi’s whatever you want to call them. I really like this event especailly after that whole Fear Itself pile of dung!! I am sorry if there were folks out there that enjoyed that maxi, I just tought it was poorly done from point A to B and I promice I will never use or mention it again for any reason from here on out!! I like that the plot is simple and has some small amount of mystery and a lot of straight up brute action. That’s what has brought me to reading many comic books over the years! I will also had thought that characters like The HUlk, Cap, Iron Man, Spider Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Window and some other characters seem way different then all of the other characters at Marvel and almost seem like they no longer fit with them and their mutants!! I say Marvel should sell DC those characters and they can keep their damn mutants, those X-Men!! I also think Hope is not the true target of the Pheonix and Wolvie just ay have his chance at killing someone real soon and it won’t be the kid!!

    AVENGERS by two!!

  8. My enthusiasm for this has yet to wane. Can’t wait!

  9. Have you guys seen the “No More Avengers.” teaser yet?!
    Man, it gave me chills!

    • AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I seen tit’ and it is pretty damn scarey, and then there’s the new Deadpool gonna clear everyone off of the Marvel Universe too huh??

      Look out Avengers!!

      K

  10. Hey Marvel I have a good event idea. I want the Marvel zomies to get into the regular 616. With The Walking Dead so popular, now is the perfect time.

  11. I’ve never really been into Marvel, though not for lack of trying–I always felt lost when trying to nose my way into the universe. Even when titles have relaunched at #1, I often feel so adrift that I leave Marvel books by issue #3 or so. Case in point: the recent launch of Wolverine and the X-Men and relaunch of Uncanny X-Men. I realize I’m in the minority, but I didn’t find the former all that funny, and the latter still left me confused. And forget about the Avengers, whose history is far too convoluted for me to figure out.

Odd, then, that I’m actually enjoying an event featuring both the X-Men and the Avengers. Yes, there are characters with which I am unfamiliar, and no, I don’t understand everything that’s happening, but you know what? It’s fun. Like, big action scene, summer popcorn movie fun. I miss that in comics, and I’m glad to have found it here.

  12. Meh.

  13. Why is Wolverine so up Cap’s ass? Cap just kick his ass and still. I was happy to see what Cyclops did to him. Wolverine is the biggest D-bag in AvsX.

    • Wolverines from a broken home mono.. cut him some slack. Plus hes beating cap in the number of girl friends that have been brutally murdered game… so he may just be a little bitter. And hes short.. lets not forget the little mans inferiority complex. Hes a short, orphaned, widower.. youd be pissed too. Plus after living for a hundred years.. dealing with people would definitely get way older than old. Whats caps story? Cap spent 60 years in a block of ice. What can i say Ignorance is bliss.

    • So Logan is done taking crap from Cyclops and now takes it for Cap… I got it.

    • I think Logan is just truly and profoundly freaked out by The Phoenix, so he’s going to suck up his pride and do whatever he thinks it will take to stop it, even if that means he has to take crap from Cap.

  14. the first 2 pages were awesome. the remaining 18 were dull as hell.
seriously, i was bored outa my mind.
you’d think captain america would have a magneto-like helmet or at least a mask lined with the same material to keep emma outa his head. instead he looks like a total ameturer. how are you gonna accomplish your objective if you let them read your thoughts?
and logan was all gung ho to kill hope, but then the first chance he gets(like 20 min later) he calls cap. i was really excited to see logan on his own for a while. not knowing who would get to her first added a layer of suspense that has been stripped away now.
for me to enjoy this event, i would have to convince myself that the characters are idiotic, convictionless flip-flops who seem to be having identity crises.
    this might be my stop.

  15. Really enjoying this series. While JRJR’s art was weaker than his norm on the prior issues, it seemed he stepped it back up on this one. Still looks rushed with a few wonky spots towards the end, but far better than the previous three.

  16. So far I’m really liking this as well as the tie-ins I’ve read…thought JRJR was much better in this issue, and I didn’t think it was that bad before.

  17. I understand that Marvel is a buissiness but I also feel that profit was put before quality on this comic. I feel that this comics only porpouse is to see the Avengers fight the X- men and not to deliver a enjoyable and fun story and I feel that this may be my last issue.

  18. This issue might have saved this event for me. I was pretty disappointed after the last issue. Thanks Hickman!

  19. OK seriously I have to say it. There are no polar bears in Antartica. Polar bears are only found in the Arctic.

  20. I thought this was a fun read. I don’t expect this to be great anymore, so now I can just enjoy it. Warts and all.

  21. The art was better in this issue, but the writing was meh; if anything, there were 7 or 8 pages worth of story, the rest was fluff. The tie-ins are way, way out of synch with the main title. When is “Wolverine and the X-Men #10” happening, can anyone tell? And the whole fight between Cap and Wolverine last issue was for nothing. This event is giving me a serious headache. The only thing that will make it even worse is another alternate reality a la House of M, so I guess that’s what’s coming next.

Comments and feedback are always welcome!

    • Yeah, this is all sorts of mixed up. It’d be nice if there was some sort of reading order list or something. Ugh.

    • As I understand it, Wolverine and the X-Men 10 took place between AVX #2 and #3. After the fight on Utopia in #2, but before the Avengers Assemble at the tower in NYC in #3. So Wolverine had time to go back to Westchester, check in, and run into Scott before getting the call to head to NYC, get on the plane with Cap, and then get stranded in Antarctica.

And the Wolverine/Cap fight may or may not have been contrived, but wasn’t for nothing. It isolated Wolverine so Hope could show up and have a chance to reason with him.

So far, Wolverine has represented a third path in regards to Hope — Scott wants to let the Phoenix use her to save mutantkind (his evidence for this? I dunno), Cap wants to lock her up so the Phoenix can’t get to her (like that’ll work). Logan on the other hand just wants to kill her before anything happens — good or bad. The fight with Cap gets him in a position where he can follow that path without any outside influences (Scott or Cap), and as we saw in this issue… he couldn’t do it.

  22. Without a doubt, the best issue since Aaron’s. Hickman can be a great storyteller who truly utilizes the comic medium to tell a story, as opposed to just using dialog. Plus, like Aaron, he embraced the fun nature of this story and truly let loose.

  23. This like I have been saying is a classic comic book maxi series, the plot is so simple and you know what they say keep it simple stupid. I agree with that statement, there is no reason for everytime there is an event to go all deep and mysterious. The only twist I see is that I still do not think the Phoenix is after Hope and to me that would make sense. Just a nice series right now and I hope it stays in this format.

    • Oh and Wolvie with the Bear skin and beer, seemed so primitive even for him but; I liked it and made me laugh a little. Hope is really starting to buy into this appears and she is gonna be very suprised I think.

      K

  24. I’m surprised that Wolvie didn’t have any words with Cap about getting pushed out of a plane. Loved the polar bear scene. And yes, in the real world, polar bears don’t live in Antarctica. But on Earth-616 they do, of course. Can we just agree that should be canon now?

  25. I couldn’t take it anymore. I passed on all the AVX books this week. I went in with high hopes and really enjoyed issues 0 and 1. But just a short time later I went from happy to disappointed to annoyed to hating it.

I like the Marvel characters, I like the Marvel movies (Avengers was great), I like the Marvel toys, some of the Marvel video games. But I just don’t like the vast majority of the Marvel books right now. And I really did want to like this but paying $4 for 20 pages of fluff just left me bummed out.

  26. I was going to pick it up but i’m kinda confused on which are the main books…not interested reading the side books.I’m not sure which to buy anymore. I’ll wait i guess.

  27. I knew this was the issue written by Hickman without even paying attention to the name on the cover. You could tell just by the hella complicated intro page.

I like that it had a lot of balls in the air though, made it interesting. They should have let Hickman write this entire series.

  28. Today I bought a variant copy of this signed. The trouble is, I can’t for the life of me figure out who signed it. It’s driving me nuts.
