The next installment in the AVX saga. I really like the introductory pages and how the two mutants negotiated between each other. At first i wasn’t convinced on how these two were characterized but by the end Kirkman revealed the truth to us and all was said and done well again. I love how this story took us to a familiar geographical location that was a memorable place from the now legendary phoenix saga. The pieces are not in place and at the 4th issue of twelve its a welcome good pace for the whole saga.

Kirkman is to be praised for this story. (like he hasn’t be garnering many already, right) But for a freshman to the kirkman scene, i definitely can give my thumbs up to his dialogue, page turns and polar bear. And as for Romita, hat’s off to him as well. Marathon art runs are not easy to pull off but he does it here so far. We can clearly see a pletora of marvel characters and drawn well enough. (“well enough” and not great this issue, sorry JR. I just cant shake my eyes off of that one Quicksilver render there)

Solid issue, and a breeze to read through.

  1. You’re right. This issue was very good, and the polar bear scene was fantastic.
(You made a little mistake in the review: The writer of this issue is Jonathan Hickman, and not Robert Kirkman)

  2. The Polar Bear scene ( a.k.a “Wampa scene”) was by far my favorite moment of this entire series so far. It was understated and subtle, which made it work so well.

The rest of the issue was meh…

  3. Polar bears live in the Arctic not Antarctica.

Took me totally out of the comic. Giant space birds coming to inhabit a teenager in order to re-ignite a race of genetically mutated humans I can tolerate, but polar bears in Antarctica? Too much, Hickman, too much.

    • Would have worked if it had been acknowledged. Like, if Hope had said, “Where in the hell did you find a Polar Bear in Antarxtica? Their natural habitat is over 10,000 miles away!” Then it would have been genius.
