  1. Excited about this conclusion but I’m also really curious about what the next arc will be about…not excited about the oral history, I’m definitely ready for some other form of back-up material if possible.

  2. Fear Itself tie-in.

  3. You have to at least admit that that’s one heck of a fine looking cover! I also think Jr Jr has been killing it on this arc (once you get past the fat watcher–which seems to be the one complaint people have been stuck on as they somehow failed to notice how incredible the art has been otherwise)

  4. @Jdudley:  I don’t have to admit that because I don’t think Jr Jr draws Iron Man very well.

  5. Gonna sit down and read the entire year’s worth of these this week. And then switch up to subscription with issue #13 for Avengers, New Avengers and Secret Avengers

  6. I just hope he explains why Thanos is here and not in the cancerverse.

  7. These Infinity Gauntlet covers have rocked!!

This arc has REALLY been enjoyable too, but I’m also REALLY hoping for some Thanos explanation as well.  Normally I don’t think it would bother me that much, but I’m still in mourning for Starlord and Nova.

  8. I agree, Thanos’ return from the cancerverse MUST be explained. I’m fine with retcon if it is to fix some bad storytelling buth the Thanos Imperative was one of the best marvel stories in years and certainly deserves to be treated as cannon—plus, I really want to know what happened to Nova and Starlord!!!
I’m really not gonn be surprised if Thanos is a construction of Dr. Strange in the asteral plane to try and confuse/frighten the Hood. This may upset some but it would definitely fit within the context of the story.
  9. Oh you know Bendis, he just does stuff and not ask any other writers what is going on when their using them. I can’t be really told I’m bad mouthing Bendis here cause that’s what he also does!

These covers by Romita the last few months have been pretty amazing. Shame I hear nothing but ‘iffy’ things about his interiors lately.

  10. @TNC – Right, cause you’re reading this comic and…wait, of course you’re not.  You just say dumb things often.  And that’s really something coming from ME!

  11. hey, break it up you two. either though one of you is totally correct.

  12. Cover is nothing spectacular in my opinion; just seems rather plain! The story arc has been ok; I have been reading it and have not fallen asleep so thats a good sign. Lets see what happens….

    K

  13. My subscription to Avengers ends with this issue, and I won’t be renewing it. I’ve been fairly bored by this book, and not as wow-ed by JRJr as I usualy am. I don’t know what I want from an Avengers book, but its not this.

  14. Love the story, but… can someone please explain the appeal of Romita Jr’s art?  I guess, it’s just never really done anything for me, generally speaking.  I am digging the Iron Man cover though.

  15. If you do not dig the art, there is no explaining it. That is not meant to be malevolent in any way. Either you like it or you do not. You may grow to appreciate his art, but that is not the same as liking it. Either way, it is a matter of taste and JRJR just does not do it for you. I feel the same way about Dillon.

  16. Steve Rogers, hypocrite.  Bet he doesn’t apologize to Tony even as he goes along with Illuminati.

  17. how dumb must all the whiners feel about the whole Thanos angle after this issue? hilarious.

  18. I seriously want to slap the people bitching about the Thanos thing after reading this

  19. Excellent conclusion to an enjoyable story arc!

  20. I am shocked, Jr Jr drew a cover that was actually relavent to the story inside!

  21. This issue confirms something that I’ve been thinking for a while: I don’t want Steve back as Captain America. I know it’s coming, and that I have no choice, but he’s a much more interesting character in this role.

  22. was suprised at the ending…is steve moving more in line with stark’s way of thinking? lies, smoke and mirrors. to tell you the truth very disappointed in the fallout of the civil war, i thought there would be much more personality clashes – it’s as if it never happened and this has affected the way i look at the book, indeed the whole of the marvel universe. did stark get away with murder?

  23. @CaseyJustice Right there with you about Steve

  24. @Malecema  What are you talking about? Tony got the gems and had a internal struggle about what do to with them. That cover is pretty apt

  25. @edward:  that’s what I’m saying, it actually made sense.  To this point most of the covers he’s done have for this run have been completely backwards from the story.

  26. Probably my favorite issue of the series yet. Really excited for #12.1 now!

  27. @Malecema  ah, sorry, i read your comment with a sarcastic tone

  28. this story was ok at best in my opinion the art was flat red hulk sucks and the hood is a tool

I was also upset with steve

  29. This was the best issue of the current New Avenger’s and adjectiveless Avenger’s respective arcs.  Considering that isn’t saying too much, Bendis needs to step it up.

  30. my potw. just enjoyable. red hulk was refreshing.

  31. This story arc was average at best, IMO.  The drama is low considering Hood never does much with the gems – we are instead told.  Thanos was just a lame illusion to fool the reader – Parker Robbins doesn’t even know who Thanos is! In the end, a single punch ends the entire conflict. The entire cast of the Illuminati, Secret, New, and adjective-less Avengers are on hand and the only character that seems to be aware of what’s going on is Rulk. Very little imagination here.

    2/5.

  32. as @WoodenSpoonVersusShiv noted above, not only do i not see what the apeal of JR,Jr’s art is, i think it’s borderline aweful.  the full page image of Cap on page 23 makes him look like an used car salesman with a “donald trump-combover,” instead of the battle-hardened bad#$% who parachutes without a parachute that he really is.
