THE SPIDER-MAN STORY OF THE DECADE BEGINS WITH THS ‘SPIDER-ISLAND: PRELUDE’

Super-star writer Dan Slott and fan-favorite Spidey artist Stefano Caselli are back! New York has been INFESTED and the web grows as it gets ready to explode into SPIDER-ISLAND! Normal people are getting Spider-Powers!

But not all of them realize that with great power must also come…you know the rest. Okay, sure we often say Peter Parker’s life will never be the same. But listen, pal, we’ve never been more serious.

Heroes and villains are crawling all over Manahttan and no one knows why. This will change everything for Pete, for Spidey…and possibly for YOU! Look at it this way…If EVERYONE’S a Spider-Man, then no one is.

  1. Having read that description, i have to buy this! Can’t wait to read the X-Men event of the decade.

  2. I started subscribing to ASM direct from Marvel. I got the 36-issue pack, which is like 65% off cover price. They started it one issue later than they were supposed to, so I need to pick up this issue (#666) from my LCS. It seemed like an excellent jumping-on point.

    @ksamara: 8)

  3. @ksamara  Obvious mix-up aside, that description sounds like every other X solicit ever written, which is why I almost never pick up a X book.

  4. This is the description from X-Men Schism #1 http://www.ifanboy.com/comics/marvel_comics/iMAY110675/x-men_schism/1_(of_5)

I’m just starting to get back into comics, not having read much in the past 15 years or so.  I got The Walking Dead hard cover books for this past xmas and have caught up on that, and have also read the entire Preacher line, which was fantastic.  This is what’s gotten be back into comics.

I’m enjoying Schism so far, and am also reading Ultimate Fallout.  The Marvel comics universe has changed quite a bit since I last read any comics.  Also, now that I’ve matured past my days of “I’m a Marvel fanboy, screw DC”, I’m really excited for the new 52 coming up.  I really want to get into some Batman and Green Lantern, and eventually some of the more obscure stuff.

  5. @VintageDougers  Welcome back!

  6.   i’m slightly scared to bring this comic into my house. My strong Catholic upbringing was stronger than i thought…ha

  7. This is it ASM! Your last chance. We’ve been through a lot together. Some ‘amazing’, some, well, let’s just say significantly less than amazing. With every issue I get closer and closer to ending our affair. I thought when you taught important lessons to the Avengers Academy we were done. I said it could not get any worse than this, but I continued against all odds (Hello, Phil!). But I promise, this is it. Please interest me; I’m desperate for our forgotten love.

  8. That’s  why I will never move to New York. Too many damn radioactive spiders.

  9. @MastodonTD  +1

  10. Yes!! Caselli is back!!

  11. Am I the only one who nocticed the issue number here? 666? Will Spider-Island be Satanic? Dun Dun Dun!

  12. This could be good, could be goofy… Hulked out heroes was meh…The amazing part about this book is how hit and miss it is.

  13. @SpiderTitan  –why do you think i’m a bit scurred? haha

  14. I’m very curious about this. It’s been called my guilty pleasure to me by marvel. It might just be bad and they’re covering their asses. verrry curious about this one

  15. @VintageDougers
I’m in the exact same boat as you. Stopped collecting for 10 years, just got back into it last year. Used to hate DC But am stoked about the new 52.

    @Spider-Titan
Yes you’re the only one who thought that. <_<

  16. This better be a great issue….

  17. I thought Ramos was supposed to do the entire Spider-Isalnd run?

  18. @dogprod  The Spider Island run doesn’t technically start until #667. On that note, My buying Amazing Spider-Man begins with #666 and ends when Ramos isn’t doing the artwork.

  19. @wiski  Yeah, I think thats why I stopped after Big Time.  I’m thinking about getting SI just for the art.

On a different note, my LCS is offering an exclusive Comic shop cover, anyone else have any info on this.  I’m assuming it’s like the recent Godzilla covers…

  20. Hope this description lives up to the hype!!  Issue #665 was a good story and grounded Peter Parker like he hasn’t been in awhile.

  21. @dogprod  This link has the two variants available, probably should check to see which one they’re offering if you like Ramos, since the fighty one is by him.

  22. Loved this. GEnuinely don’t know what more you could ask for out of a set-up issue…

  23. Wasn’t this supposed to be digital same-day. I didn’t see it.

  24. Can anyone help me out:

I was going to wait until this is collected as a trade to try to save money for some new DC titles coming out, but I might well just keep getting Amzing Spider-Man in single-issue format.  Depends on answers to these questions

a.) How many issues of Amazing Spider-Man will this arc run?

b.) How important do you think the tie-in comics related to Spider-Island will be (Master of Kung-Fu, Avengers, etc.) when it comes to following the events going on in Amazing Spider-Man?  I really don’t want to get into them with so many other new books coming out.

Thanks in advance for any info. and advice/opinions.

  25. @mgriffith  –  This will run through 8 issues of ASM (counting this issue and the Epilogue).  And I doubt you’ll be missing much with the tie-ins.  The tie-ins here will mostly likey be like any other event, take ’em or leave ’em!

Personally, I’ll take any opportunity to read some Cloak and Dagger!

  26. Caselli manhandled this. Really good start.

  27. First Twitter #hashtag on a comic book cover?

  28. This issue was truly a comic book in its best form. There aren’t very many writers who get spider-man right, but Slott definitely DOES.

  29. Kill the clones already! How deep did they dig that freaking well? However this issue was pretty good. Slott juggles Pete’s busy life really well always throwing in hints to everything that’s been going on i.e. Hobgoblin, Carlie, Avengers, FF, etc. Looking forward to the return of Ramos next issue.

  30. What a great issue! Wonderful pacing out of  this storyline to, i mean this issue had everything in it.  One moment hes beating up Hydro Man, the next hes hanging out with the FF and then hes playing a poker game at the Avengers Mansion which he has to leave in order to practice Karate with Shang Chi lol.

  31. Now THIS is what I expect from a $3.99 comic book!.  There is a lot of story going on here (or stories, to be more precise) with a lot of energetic and crackling dialog.  This was a throwback for me.  I started reading ASM back in the seventies when the book was full of exciting, action-packed main stories and intriguing sub-plots that kept me coming back month after month.  I feel most comic titles have abandoned the sub-plots that used to keep readers intrigued and have made it easier for readers to come and go.  I have not picked an ASM issue for at least two years but I am on board with this sort of storytelling.

  32. Wasn’t this supposed to be digital day and date? It’s still not available on iPad.

  33. Initially wasn’t excited for this event, but I actually think it might shape up to be pretty good!

  34. have I just been missing it or are they just starting to put ads in the actual art? I noticed an orbit logo in this as well as Uncanny X-Men, and I also saw a Harley logo as well.

  35. @johnthrax  They’ve been doing that for a while.

  36. Well this was a fun issue to read and now I think I may be hooked.

    Just sayin’

    K

  37. Please don’t be Ben Reilly in the tank. Please don’t be Ben Reilly in the tank. Also, why’d they ditch Kaine’s creepy new Tarantula look so quickly. I never liked Kaine, but that look was more interesting than mecha-manga-spider.

  38. I freakin’ loved this issue. So much going on, so much fun, so much action, so much intrigue, and all of it is stuff that makes me care about what happens next. These days, it’s such a delicious rarity when someone doesn’t screw up Spidey – I don’t know how Slott is doing it, but he’s doing it right.
