I dropped the Avengers titles a couple of years ago because I felt the stories were getting stale.  Bendis is…

September 27, 2011 6:02 pm I haven't seen an artist's style change as much as Bacahlo's has since he started back on Generation X. However, I love the stylized art and I don't think there is a more cinematic storyteller than Bachalo in the way he does his layout's. Totally disagree that his art detracts from the story. However, for you haters, fear not - he rarely stays on a book more than nine issues and isn't real consistent in back to back monthly output. We'll probably get four or five issues before he is gone. Too bad.
August 17, 2011 12:00 pm I have loved the Brubaker run on Cap and McNiven's art is fantastic so it was a no brainer to pick up issue #1. However, I know McNiven has problems with meeting deadlines and I notice issue number 2 has already slipped by a week from its published solicit date. I'm on board for now but I will not be sticking around for another series that I can't count on month to month.
July 29, 2011 3:03 pm Now THIS is what I expect from a $3.99 comic book!.  There is a lot of story going on here (or stories, to be more precise) with a lot of energetic and crackling dialog.  This was a throwback for me.  I started reading ASM back in the seventies when the book was full of exciting, action-packed main stories and intriguing sub-plots that kept me coming back month after month.  I feel most comic titles have abandoned the sub-plots that used to keep readers intrigued and have made it easier for readers to come and go.  I have not picked an ASM issue for at least two years but I am on board with this sort of storytelling.
July 29, 2011 2:52 pm Maybe I'm getting impatient in my older age but issue two of this storyline really didn't seem to advance anything.  If I had not already read the press around this series I would have absolutely no idea where this is heading nor would I really care.  I'm not getting a sense of growing tension and this "crisis" seems to be no more dangerous than anything the the X-Men have encountered before.  My question, as with many so-called "event" stories, is why couldn't this have been told within the continuity of one of the other 'X' titles like 'X-Men' or 'Uncanny'?  So far, it has been average and so I'm not sure I need to stick around for all 5 issues.  While Frank Cho's art is always welcome, I could not even remotely stomach his interpretation of Cyclops.  Portraying him as "Slim" is one thing, but making him look like a sixty-year old is another.
July 20, 2011 5:06 pm I used to love Greg Land's work in Sojourn.  I even liked it in Ultimate Fantastic Four.  But WTH?  Since when did Uncanny X-Men become a glamour catalog?  Pass.
July 20, 2011 5:04 pm And in the next issue, the Avengers will share their oral history of watching paint dry.  Oh, and Hawkeye and Spider Woman get caught sending mash notes to each other.  Aren't they just the cutest?
July 20, 2011 5:02 pm Whoa!  I went to the comic shop prepared to pick this up but after leafing through it on the shelf, I couldn't do it.  After years of reading the Bendis and Brubaker run on DD, to see a more carefree Daredevil and a cartoonish villain was just plain creepy.  I'll keep myself content with my memeories and back issues of DD.
July 20, 2011 4:58 pm Wow! What a dud week. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, from DC or Marvel looked good enough to warrant a purchase.  Thank God for this little gem of a mini series.  This is just the type of format you need if you find the storylines from the major publishers plodding along at a Snail's pace (I'm looking at you X-Men).  I have not read this issue yet, but in leafing through the book in the store I thought I saw just a couple of sketches from Bruce Timm rather than an actual comic story.  If that's the case, I'm calling "Shenanigans" on IDW for using his name in the solicitation.
July 13, 2011 10:14 pm Turns out the art was actually pretty good but the story was a stinker.  No FF anywhere to be found.  And, farnkly, I just didn't get it.  No action, no mystery, no suspense, no fun.  Should have left this on the shelf.
