The Best of the Week in Cover(s) – 05.15.2013

Each Friday, we showcase the best in comic book covers for the week. This week, there can be only one. You’re welcome to nominate your own favorites, but for this man there was a singular choice.

Battlestar-Galactica-1-Eliopoulos-Subscription-Variant

Battlestar Galactica #1

Variant Cover by Chris Eliopoulos

It’s not just that it’s a chibi/baby variant, which are relatively popular these days. It’s that it’s a baby variant for Battlestar Galactica, which, in its modern incarnation is so cold and self important. Not that I didn’t love it. But this is like tarmac foam, preparing readers for the relative mirth and good humor of oldschool Battlestar Galactica, of which this series takes its cues. I also had to laugh because I was kicked off a very similar, if bright tangerine, version of this same coin operated Viper at a local Pathmark about a week ago, even though there were no kids waiting in line like that adorable Cylon, and I didn’t reek of the reefer.

So say we all.

Comments

  1. This was the “best” cover of the week? WOW

  2. Hahaha! Nice Paul, I saw your personal connection right away because I follow you iFanboys on Twitter(I’m @theotherbluth).

My personal nomination is FF #7, the throwback to covers with an actual scene–and dialogue–on them won me over right away. My runner-up is Fatale #14, because Sean Phillips is a master, and I’m a sucker for hot chicks with guns, and WWII, and this cover had both.

  3. Really…. just one cover and its some played out baby variant. I know it was slow week, but damn.

  4. I don’t read the book, but I think my favorite cover of the week was The Shadow #13 by Francisco Francavilla.

  5. There has to be more than one cover worthy of being in this article. Wonder Woman, Ultimate Comic’s Spider-Man, Fables and X-Factor were all pretty good.

  6. The Best of the Week in Cover… Cover.

  7. Very very funny! I LOVE the Charles Schulz grimace!

  8. If you were a true Galactic Warrior, you would know that is a Viper, not a Raptor! LOL!

  9. I think FF 7 deserves a mention, speech bubbles on a cover is always a fun throw back. But it would be the only other cover i would have gone with and having 2 cow would not have worked as well as the 1. I like the cut of your jib.

  10. I’d nominate Batwoman, I really liked the use of color in the image. Runner up to Fatale.

  11. There is something wrong that is not right.
