SDCC 2011: Unlock Rocket Raccoon, Doctor Strange And More In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Since it's release this last February, Capcom has been fairly quiet about the promised DLC updates for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Well, it looks like Capcom has been saving up all their toys for one massive update coming this November with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3! New stages, features, and twelve new characters will be added to the roster, bringing the total number of fighters to 50.

Capcom

  • Strider
  • Firebrand (The red devil from Ghouls n' Ghosts)
  • Phoenix Wright
  • Nemesis (A Big Bad from Resident Evil)
  • Frank West
  • Virgil (Dante's brother from Devil May Cry)

Marvel

  • Ghost Rider
  • Dr. Strange
  • Iron Fist
  • Hawkeye
  • Nova
  • Rocket Raccoon

Yes, you will be able to beat people up with Rocket Raccoon later this year. Personally, I'm most excited for Dr. Strange and I know Ron is going to be tickeled pink that his favorite character, Nova, made it in. Capcom has released a announcement trailer highlighting Strider, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, and Hawkeye in motion. Keep your eyes peeled for the Ant Man cameo towards the end.

Capcom has also promised new stages and a complete rebalance of the game. This should come as good news to those who are tired of Wolverine and Jean dominating the online and tournament scenes. In the screenshots you'll see a stage based on Shadowland, complete with an evil Daredevil sitting on his throne in the background. Spectator mode is finally being added to online play as well, so no more staring at Licence Cards bumping each other while you wait for a match!

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is scheduled to be released November 15th for $39.99. No word yet if Capcom will offer a less-espensive downloadable upgrade for existing MvC3 owners, similar to the recent update to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to start building my new dream teams.

Comments

  1. So excited about this. Rocket Racoon is an amazing choice for MvC3. Tickled at the inclusion of Phoenix Wright as well, can’t wait to try him out.

I would wager this won’t be available as DLC, in the same way Super Street Fighter IV wasn’t, it seems like too much content. I traded in my copy of MvC3 not long ago anyway, so I’m happy to wait for this upgrade when I want to play again.

  2. You forgot Hawkeye from the Marvel side and Vergil from the Capcom side.

  3. @CountAbyss  Oops! Good eye, I’ve corrected the lists.

  4. They had me at Hawkeye.

  5. If Hawkeye’s death cry is “Not like thiiiiiis!” then I’m sold! XP

  6. That list is making me cry tears of incredible happiness.

Curse my Xbox-less life! I’d really love to play as Phoenix Wright. Man, I love those games. Also, Ghost Rider would be neat.

  8. UPDATE: Giant Bomb has a statement from Capcom confirming Ultimate MvC3 will be a retail only release: “We think everything offered in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is worthy of a full retail release. With updates of the game system, spectator mode, etc. it would be a quite a lot for a DLC update.”

  9. Kind of a dick move to make folks shell out an extra 40 bucks if they already have the game, but WHO CARES?!?! PHOENIX VS. PHOENIX WRIGHT!! THOR VS. NOVA!! RYU VS. IRON FIST!!

They’re gonna take me for a ride.

  10. @CaseyJustice  –yeah they do the same thing for the Call of Duty franchise. They’re about to release the 3rd map pack at $15…so $45 of add ons for a $60 game…the upside is i’ve been playing it for a year and not tired of it yet, so in that respect its worth it.

  11. I feel alittle ripped off now…

  12. Anyone play Demon’s Crest on SNES or the Gargoyle’s Quest games on NES?  I completely forgot about those games till I saw Firebrand up there.

  13. hmm, would have preferd StarLord with RR coming in for his specials ala antman or Groot with RR on his shoulder, but any Guardians of the Galaxy rep fills me with joy.

  14. as much as i like Nova, I can’t imagine him being all that fun to play with in this game, I mean his powers are basically flight and shooting stuff from his hands…

that said, Rocket Raccoon is gonna be AWESOME!

  15. I really hope they release this as a DLC pack. Everything new looks awesome but I can’t justify buying the whole game again.

@JesTr  Scroll up a bit. Josh got confirmation that that won’t happen.

  17. Well, that’s disappointing.

  18. Pro: The new characters look great!

Con: I just paid $40 for the first one and I have to buy a NEW copy instead of a DLC? How the fuck does that make sense?

  19. Frankie needs a Chuck Greene alt.

  20. @TheNextChampion  it’s what Capcom does. Double dip like a mother – SHUT YO MOUTH! – I’m just talking about Capcom!

  21. Hawkeye, Iron Fist and Nova are worth the price of admission alone.

  22. Aw, man…I’m not a video game player at all but…
Rocket Raccoon….Nova….Ghost Rider….Doctor Strange….Guess I’m going to have to figure out how to play this thing.

  23. Oh, man, just seen Hawkeye’s Lv 3 hyper move. It’s sensational (it involves a guest appearance from Ant/Giant-man)

  24. Damn you Capcom! I laid down 70 bucks for the collectors edition of this game and now you’re telling me I need to shell out another 40 to play as Rocket Raccoon!

  25. Trust me Zarathos81, it’s MvsC, you dont have to figure out anything. The game practicly plays itself.

  26. ROCKET RACCOON AND NOVA!!

  27. EA and Capcom… masters of nickel and diming the people.  Are we sure EA isn’t run by Jews and Capcom by Koreans?

I am a Korean Jew and am allowed to make that joke.  You don’t like it, GTFO.

  28. Was I the only one thinking that this was about “Ultimate Marvel?”

  29. Hope there is an appearance from GROOT!!!

  30. I’d be so much more interested in this if it left out all the Capcom characters
