Scott Snyder Writes BATMAN: GATES OF GOTHAM

Here's what we know. Detective Comics is real good. So is American Vampire, which has jumped through different eras in time. There was a whole lot of cool stuff left behind in the wake of Return of Bruce Wayne.

Throw those all together and you have Batman: Gates of Gotham, a six issue mini-series, with Trevor McCarthy on art, coming out in May. The story will be co-written by Scott Snyder and Kyle Higgins.

The story will pull in elements from the current stories, and look into the past of big Gotham families like the Waynes, Kanes, and Elliots, and a lot of Bat family characters.

It could be a very good time, and I'm really digging this cover.

Comments

  1. ill be reading this

  2. Who’s the guy wearing the tophat opposite Batman?

  3. I want to make a “Waynes, Kanes and Automobiles” joke…

    But, yeah, this looks good.

  4. What happened to Gordons son?

  5. @rottenjorge  That’s happening in Detective Comics. This is something different.

  6. Could this be a future fancy hardcover??  Methinks yes.

  7. I love this idea. A lot.

  8. I’m very interested in this. Gotham is probably my favorite comic universe city, and it seems like they could do lots of fun things with period pieces set there. Big fan of Snyder’s Batman work so far..can’t wait.

  9. hmmmm sounds promising. That’s one of the great things about Bat books, you can set a story in gotham in the past without batman and it can still feel like a batman book.

  10. I agree with marshak75.  This image looks too good not to be on a hardcover.  I’ll be waiting for that rather than the issues.

  11. I’ve been really enjoying his Detective run. I assume this will be just as delicious.

  12. I’m liking that poster. Kind of looks like JH Williams III.

  13. I already cant watch Mad Men without thinking Don Draper is Bruce Wayne so having a sexy sixtys Batman story with dudes in suits is a fairly natural extension

  14. Well, I’m sold on this.

The market probably can’t support it as an ongoing, and not that I want him to leave Detective, but I’d REALLY like to see Snyder do some kind of Gotham Central-ish cop book with Francavilla drawing.

  15. *drools*

Oh man look at that cover.

Definitely going to be buying this when it comes out. Love the idea of any Bat-related title to give us an inside look into Gotham and its history.

  16. God, I hate minis because I would always buy it alll in one lump sum but end up buying the issues instead because I’m so impatient!!

  17. Another one for the pull-list

  18. people say all the time that Gotham is it’s own character

and I agree- This is the treatment it deserves.

    Looking forward to this.

  19. The other guy looks like Kroenen from the Hellboy movie.

  20. I’m already picturing an ornate embossed hardcover treatment.  If Snyder manages to strike a really sweeping, epic feel for this I’ll be more than happy.  VERY interested.

  21. Something about that cover breaths cartoonie yet sophisticated.  Count me in!

  22. This will be nice to have in hardcover.  Love the idea, just wish JOCK was on this, but Trevor McCarthy’s  cover looks very cool.

  23. brilliant idea, always wondered if the history of Gotham had been covered much
