Bonus Question: What’s your favorite new show on TV?

Comments

  1. Last night’s Hell on Wheels was pretty awesome

  2. Homeland is a damn fine show. I think that is my favorite on right now.

  3. Very light week. Only Batman and Robin & Journey Into Mystery; two great books though.

BQ: None. I haven’t enjoyed any of the new shows that I’ve watched. As a cheat, Happy Endings was off my radar until this season. In fact, ABC has a really good comedy line-up on Wednesdays sans ‘Suburgatory’.

  4. Lighter week for me this time around, so I might buy into the hype and get Point One. It’s $6, but should be a ton of pages, right?

I’ve been enjoying Bendis and Pichelli’s work on Ultimate Spider-man, but I’m kind of hoping we get to see Miles in a costume this week.

I’m also surprised at how excited I am for Batman and Robin 3 – apparently I just can’t get enough Damian.

BQ: I’m so behind on TV. Just finished season 4 of Breaking Bad, and now I need to catch up on Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Anarchy and Walking Dead, so it’ll be at least 2012 before I track down any new shows.

  5. Light week for me as well. My favorite new show so far has been American Horror Story. But Hell on Wheels looks promising.

    • American Horror Story is awesome! Jessica Lange & Dylan McDermott are doing award winning acting on that show!

    • @Kmanifesto yeah, Jessica Lange steals the show. And Connie Britton is awesome too.

    • Every episode is better than the one before. The pilot left me unsure of if I liked it or not, but I was intrigued enough to continue. The 2nd episode was pretty good, then it got awesome from there on. Now I can’t wait for a new episode!

    • Isn’t that the show about a haunted house? So the characters choose to stay in the haunted house after knowing it’s a haunted house?

  6. 2 Broke Girls.

  7. Bonus: American Horror Story, but only because Happy Endings isn’t new, per se.

  8. Avenging Spider-Man #1, Journey into Mystery #631, Reed Gunther TP Vol 1, Batwoman #3, Frankenstein #3, Point One #1

BQ: I’ve hardly caught any of this year’s new shows but I’m quite enjoying Once Upon A Time at the moment.

  9. 13 this week. Although I might change my mind on a couple when I get there, like Batgirl. It’s not delivering for me.

Ever since Lost, I don’t really watch new shows. I wait and catch up if it seems worth it. Walking Dead has been the only exception to that so far. Right now I’m also all about Sons of Anarchy and Dexter. Trying to catch up on Mad Men, but it’s been hard to find the time.

    • Agree and Agree. I’ve got 11 books and tho I don’t pull Batgirl some others are on notice. I just can’t carry 11-13 books a week (and this is after my trimming).
I also catch up when a show is done with a season. If I ever find time it’s always some random day that i didnt plan and I have some a few hours to blow thru a bunch of episodes and get caught up on one of the seasons lol.

  10. Homeland is not only good, it is possible classic in the making good. I don’t know how the story can possible go on though

  11. Slower week, but jazzed for more Ultimate Spider-Man, Batwoman, X-Force and Wolverine. Also getting New Avengers, Rachel Rising, Batgirl, Batman and Robin.

BQ: Here in the Uk, right now, we got nothin’, nothin’! I have bought and started the third season of Breaking Bad since no UK channel has picked up the rights and also the first two Community sets. I do hear good things about Homeland tho’.

    • Ha … im in the USA.. and i just finished Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren..
and … im on my third episode of Poirot.
And yes Homeland is very good…. love breaking bad as well..

  12. 5 comics this week, most excited about Superboy.

BQ: Hell on Wheels was good last night and I’m really digging the new Thundercats.

  13. Only 3 books? My wallet is giving me a thumbs up.

BQ: Just speaking of new shows, Once Upon a Time is stupid fun, and American Horror Story is just plain funny.

  14. BQ: New Girl is enjoyed by both my wife and me. For some reason, we find ourselves drawn to the silliness of American Horror Story.

  15. Batgirl, X-Men Legacy, Witchblade, Deathstroke, some fun stuff but definitely a light week for me.

BQ: Beavis and Butt-head, these heroes are funnier than ever. Not a new show, but back after 14 years to kick ass.

  16. A good week for Spidey for me as I’ll definitely get Ultimate Spider-Man and probably get the new Avenging Spidey #1. Plus two Bat titles: Batman & Robin and Batwoman.

BQ: I think New Girl is pretty damn funny.

  17. A lot of stuff on this list I plan on buying a month from now when it’s a dollar cheaper.

BQ: Haven’t watched any new shows yet except for Whitney and Last man Standing…and um.. yeah…the less said the better

  18. Only four books this week. Praise me. Not really watching any new shows.

  19. AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #1
    DEMON KNIGHTS #3
    JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #631
    LOOSE ENDS #3 (OF 4)
    NEW AVENGERS #18
    PIGS #3
    RACHEL RISING #3

Sweet. Lightish week. Way better than the past two at least.

BQ: I don’t really watch TV too often. I tried to watch Big Bang Theory once, and it made me regret every decision I had made in life that led me to that point. I’ll watch American Pickers sometimes, and wonder why the hell I’m watching it, then Danielle will be on screen and I’m like “Oh yeah, that’s why”.

    • Ha.. havent seen Big Bang theory.. but.. i wouldnt mind a time machine knowing what i know now.. ..and.. yes Danielle is pretty sweet.

Im going to sound like a broken record here but.. .. Try a few HBO shows and or Showtime shows.. i doubt youll be disappointed. HBO’s own quote is “its not TV its HBO”.. its most certainly not typical TV.
There is a HBO and Showtime show for every taste and pretty much a show based on every genre.
Seriously im trying to spread the joy those two networks have given me.
Deadwood was great ( a western obviously)
Rome season one was great ( Julius and Augustus Caesar Rome)
Dexter is awesome (serial killer that kills bad people and works for the cops)
Bored to Death (great quirky comedy about a novelist trying to be a private eye while being aided by his idiot friends)
Curb your Enthusiasm ( almost every season is great.. based on the co creator of seinfelds life and is mostly about getting into one misunderstanding after another)
Boardwalk Empire.. really really good.. (Prohibition era old style gangster drama set in atlantic city..)
Man where do I end.. Entourage is realy good, the first season of east bound down was crazy funny (not the second)… game of thrones seems to be shaping up into something nice…. theres the borgia and the tudors from showtime.. both period pieces. I assume you know about the Soprano’s (only season 3 was sub par). Hell i even like the big C.
Of course there are a few other networks that produce quality stuff.. like AMC and FX. Justified.. breaking bad.. both dramas and louis..and always sunny.. both comedys.. are very good too.
I wouldnt watch most of the fox/nbc/cbs/ and abc stuff if i was paid to though.

  20. Small weak. . . looking most forward to PIGS.

BQ: I’m not watching anything new until I’m caught up with Dexter (on season four now). I’m recording American Horror Story- I’m not really loving what I’ve seen (seems like they are just throwing in every horror cliche possible), but I want to watch them at some point b/c it’s got Russel from True Blood.

  21. Avenging Spiderman and Star Trek/Legion (pretty accessible Legion book..tons of fun), and Baltimore.

BQ: Up all Night and Happy Endings are pretty funny show.. Much more in the NBC office style than CBS traditional style. Been catching up on Breaking Bad…so awesome.

  22. Finally! A small-ish week. Looking forward to all that’s dropping. I actually should go finish my other books right now….

BQ: TV? You mean there’s new TV out. Holy crap I’ve got to find some more time in my life.

  23. I really enjoyed Spider Island, so I’m looking forward to The Avenging Spiderman the most this week.

    BQ: Hell on Wheels.

  24. Just 2 books this week for me, batman & Robin and Mr. terrific. Although this will be my last issue of Terrific. It wasn’t so Terrific 🙁

BQ: I’m loving Person of interest and American horror Story. Have Hell on Wheels on the DVR waiting for me, hoping it’s as good as I’m expecting!

  25. I didn’t see Incredible Hulk #2 on this weeks pull list. Its coming out this week and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

  26. I keep getting so much shit for dropping Batwoman. I’ll pick up the first trade to see if I like any better.
    BQ: 2 Broke Girls

  27. BALTIMORE: THE CURSE BELLS #4
    BATGIRL #3
    MAGNETO: NOT A HERO #1 (OF 4)
    PUNISHER MAX #19
    ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #4
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #17
    WOLVERINE #18
    DEMON KNIGHTS #3
    FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #3
    RESURRECTION MAN #3
    GARTH ENNIS’ JENNIFER BLOOD #6
    RACHEL RISING #3
TERMINATOR ROBOCOP KILL HUMAN #4 (OF 4)

People should be reading Ultimate spiderman, uncanny xforce, and rachel rising. Steve Dillon on punisher max is gorgeous as always.. and Arron is holding his own. I dropped Ghost Rider finally.. its awful.
My favorite new show is Homeland bar none.. i havent seen hell on wheels yet but im eager.. and what am i thinking?. Im thinking that i havent eaten diner yet…

  28. Getting: Batwoman, Frankenstein: AoS, Demon Knights & perhaps Batgirl.

new show? i’ve no bloody idea, i just watch Venture Bros on Bluray over & over & over.

  29. DC: really excited for new issues of Demon Knights, Frankenstein, Batwoman & Unwritten. Looking forward to Batman & Robin as well. Grifter is being dropped as of this week — I liked the first two issues, but don’t feel the urge to keep up with it monthly. I’m starting to lean that way with Resurrection Man as well, but will try to hang in there for at least the full arc. I would really like to pick up that My Faith in Frankie collectionn, but the money just ain’t there this week. Sigh.

Marvel: most excited for Journey into Mystery, though will get New Avengers as well. I’m pretty skeptical about Osborne’s return though, it’s too soon I think.

BQ: I don’t really keep up with tv shows well, so I haven’t seen anything from this season. I am very intrigued by what I’ve heard about Homeland, so will definately check it out once it hits video (I don’t have premium cable). By the way, all those new Damian Lewis fans who have been watching the show, should check out this indie film, Keane, which he stared in several years ago. It’s an excellent film all around, and he’s simply amazing in it . . .

  30. I think I have 17 or so books this week but I’ll be dropping a few off this week, probably switch to trades for buffy and drop frankenstein to start off with. Really excited for point 1, batwoman, ultimate spider man and avengers origans vision as well as the rest of them, just a little less so.

BQ- Havn’t watched a new show for a while, the last would’ve been falling skies which I thought was pretty good. Also I’ve been catching up on stuff I missed like Misfits and venture brothers latest season. Love Misfits, if you’re not watching it I highly recomend it.

  31. BATGIRL #3
    BATWOMAN #3
    FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #3
    GREEN LANTERN #3
    MISTER TERRIFIC #3
    PUNISHER MAX #19

Really looking forward to all these books except maybe Mr. Terrific, which isn’t bad by any extent…It just isn’t “wowing” me. I’ll give it one more chance.

BQ: I don’t watch a lot of TV until it comes to Netflix, but I am totally in love with Community and Ugly Americans right now. Speaking of TV on Netflix looks like they just put up “Breaking Bad”. Really excited to start watching that, I’ve heard nothing but great things!

  32. just penguin and huntress for me, i dont pay attention to tv shows not named walking dead, mad men, the league, tosh.0, or monday night raw

  33. Pumped for Wolverine, Uncanny, and Demon Knights.

BQ: American Horror Story is a fuckin’ thrill ride. And I was surprised to find myself laughing out loud at the New Girl last week so I may give that a shot again tonight.

  34. Avenging Spider-Man #1, Batman and Robin #3, Green Lantern #3, Orchid #2, Point One #1, Superboy #3, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #4, Uncanny X-Force #17, and Wolverine #18. My spider sense has been tingling for Avenging Spider-man for months. I got the preview book from the comic shop and drew from some of Joe Madureira’s pages.

B.Q.: Imma go with my two favorite new shows, one a live action and the other an animated. My favorite new live action show is 2 Broke Girls and my favorite new animated show is Young Justice.

  35. Picking up Batman & Robin, Demon Knights, and Ultimate Spiderman. My pull list is growing. Adding 5 more titles to my sub – Hellblazer,I Zombie,American Vampire,Invincible and Lord of the Jungle.

  36. BQ – Now that Breaking Bad is over, I’m really loving Homeland. Great acting, great plot, you never know if what the main character is seeing is legit or if she’s leaping to a wild conclusion, they give you just enough evidence to string you along, there are plot twists…. man, it is great.

For comedies, I have to recommend The League. Whether you follow fantasy football or not, there is plenty to laugh at here. Created and written by the guys who brought you Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. This show is wrong wrong wrong but so funny. I like it better than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia now. Smart, snappy dialogue, sports in-jokes, and awkward situations.

Workaholics is also very funny. Three hard partying, single working stiffs who work at a telemarketing company and get into all kinds of inappropriate situations (stealing clean urine to pass drug tests, bringing strippers to a Chuck E Cheese like eatery, and so on). The lead actors are likable and hilarious, with good dialogue and delivery.

Missed Hell on Wheels and American Horror, maybe I can catch up.

    • i think the only Sienfeld and David involved with the League are Peter Sienfled and Nathan David but it’s still an awesome show.

I do know a lot of the actors are from the UCB and Mark Duplass was a mumble-core film maker though

    • Nope, Jeff Schaffer and Jackie Marcus Schaffer are the creators and writers for The League. Look up their resumes.

    • Ya i caught just a few minutes of workaholics and i was laughing out loud. I didnt even know that show existed. People at my local shop have been telling me to watch Misfits.. UK low budget superhero comedy. Its only available via download in the USA through hulu or via piracy. Ill get around to it eventually i guess.
      Peace out.
