New Comics for 01/04 or 05/2012 will read more prose books

Get to pulling this Wednesday’s books, and then let us know what you’re looking forward to most, what you’re dropping, what others should be buying and anything you’re thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!

What are the iFanboys buying? Check their pull lists out here: Conor, Ron, and Josh.

And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Check out their pull lists: Dave, Jim, Paul, Mike, Chris, Molly, Ryan, Josh, Ben, Ali, Chris, Jeff and Matt.

This week Josh has the first Pick of the Week of 2012!

Bonus Question: What is your primary New Year’s resolution? And how long before you break it?

Note on Shipping: Because Monday was an observed holiday (hence the one day delay on this list–Diamond was off yesterday) there might be a one day delay on when new books arrive at your stores. If your store participates in early delivery then the books should arrive on Wednesday, but if not it may be Thursday. As always around holiday time, your best bet is to check with your store to find out when they will have new books.

Comments

  1. This is the year I start cutting back. Much as I love you, comics, you’re getting too expensive. Sucks too because there’s good stuff this week, but I’ll still get my fill of Animal Man, Swamp Thing, and Brian Wood’s take on Wolverine & The X-Men.

BQ: Drawing like a madman. I’ve put it off for far too long and I’m anxiously waiting to sign up for the intro course on Comics Experience. I will not break that resolution – don’t curse me! 🙂

  2. Works for me.

I’m rather excited for this week. I’ve got Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Fatale, Mudman, and I thought I’d try the new creative team on Witchblade.

BQ: Go to the Gym. I went this morning, so probably in the next two weeks when I start school again.

  3. BQ: Walk every day (at least two miles), in addition to whateber exercise I get at work. Swim if I can’t go out walking.

Been doing it since last Friday. Day 5!

  4. Big week (well for me):
    ANIMAL MAN #5
    STORMWATCH #5
    THE AVENGERS ANNUAL #1
    THE PUNISHER #7
    ACTION COMICS #5
    O.M.A.C. #5
    SWAMP THING #5
    FATALE #1
    MUDMAN #2
    RACHEL RISING #4

BQ: Do more stuff rather than sit in front of the TV.

  5. Bunch of books from this week and last week….i think i’ll be making some cut decisions this week. I’m interested in “Fatale” to see what thats all about.

BQ: read more regular books and be more selective with my comics so i don’t get burned out. Also to really make serious headway into my creative side projects (i’m looking at you creator owned comic that should have been done by summer).

  6. animal man (look at that cover!!!), swamp thing, wolverine and the x-men: alpha and omega, defenders

bq: stop watching hell’s kitchen. i think i’ll keep it.

  7. Animal Man and Swamp Thing come out on the same week? How have I not noticed this before? Awesome. Also, hells yea to UXF, Fatale, Punisher, Stormwatch, OMAC, Penquin, Huntress, Peanuts, and Mudman.

BQ: Read more, as its the simplest of resolutions for someone like me (lazy) to keep.

  8. big week for me (by my standards):

    Animal Man
    Batwing
    Fatale
    The Goon
    OMAC
    Swamp Thing

as of now i’m dropping Batwing at issue #6 unless it wows me before then. it’s good but too decompressed for my tastes.

may pick up a collection or two as well (thank you Central City Comix for the new year’s discount!)

BQ: drop the last couple of holiday pounds, and read more books (y’know novels).

  9. FATALE #1
    GOON POWELL REG CVR #37
    JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #5
    MUDMAN #2
    O.M.A.C. #5
    RACHEL RISING #4
STRIKEFORCE: MORITURI – WE WHO ARE ABOUT TO DIE #1
    SWAMP THING #5
    THE AVENGERS ANNUAL #1
    THE DEFENDERS #2
    THE LONE RANGER #1
    THE PUNISHER #7
    THUNDERBOLTS #168
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #19.1
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN: ALPHA AND OMEGA #1 (OF 5)

BQ: To lose some weight before I get hitched in June. I’m not even 200 pounds, but the extra ~30 I’ve tacked on in the past three years is wreaking havoc on my already bad knees. Plus, the woman and I don’t want to be chubbers in the wedding pics. Not a lot of time to work out, so we shall see.

  10. Looking forward Animal Man, Swamp Thang and X-Force!
My New Year’s Resolution is to learn to say ‘no’ more often.
I will not be answering part two of this query.

  11. Was expecting a bit of a post Christmas lull, but that’s a good solid week. Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Action, Fatale, a plethora of the new X-books, Rachel Rising…sweet. Still wondering WTF with regards to the whole Avengers Annual thing, I mean when did part 1 come out? Now if only Dynamite could get around to putting out that (now kinda late) Howard Chaykin art book, 2012 would be off to a fantastic start.

BQ: I guess to diet, get fitter and drink less….all of which I am probably failing at already…but there’s still so much food and drink to get through!

  12. Bonus Question: My resolution will probably be to get a kindle or some other reading device and start picking up my comic books digitally. How long until I break it? Heck, probably won’t even start it.

  13. Ooooh, Fatale is out!

BQ: Apparently, none of us are in peak fighting shape. I’m going to drop a few. Too bad food is so delicious and my couch is so comfortable.

  14. I’ve cut all of Marvel out. Until they start price dropping on Comixology like DC does, no more Marvel for me. They have too many $3.99 books and if they refuse to drop the price, I’ll wait until they have a 99 cent sale or start price dropping like they should be doing.

  15. Avengers X-Sanction #2 (I still need to get #1. Maybe I’ll buy it digitally), Uncanny X-Force #19.1, Wolverine & The X-Men Alpha & Omega #1, X-23 #20, Static Shock #5, Action Comics #5, and Swamp Thing #5.

BQ: Usually I just hope to get a girlfriend. It’s not as easy to get girlfriends in high school as it used to be.

  16. Action Comics, StaticShock & SuperDinosouar!

BQ: Watch more tv, eat more and drink as much as I can.

  17. I’m looking forward to X-23 this week.

    BQ: Avoid fried foods.

  18. I’m getting :
    X-Force #19.1
    Fatale #1 (Maybe)
    Uncanny #4
    Kid Omega #1
    Detective #5
    X-Sanction #2
    Hulk #47
    Nowhere Man #1 (Maybe)

Going to catch up on Teen Titans, Death Stroke and Maybe Try some #1’s from New 52 like Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc.

    • Wow, man, you are missing out if you haven’t read Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman, and Flash! Those are all amazing books. Guarantee they are great.

  19. Six books for me, Defenders, Action comics, Animal Man, Justice League international, detective Comics and Ferals.

BQ: I actually have two: Eliminate chemicals and stuff I can’t pronounce from my diet and replace them with all natural foods (which has actually been great so far) and spend less time watching TV and more time reading and writing. How long until i break it? I’m hoping I don’t!

  20. Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Sweet Tooth, Rachel Rising. Pretty sure I’m dropping Action Comics and skipping the Wood Wolverine mini despite the fact that I am loving the Aaron series. Not that they haven’t been/will be good but I swore I’d cut my pull list to 20 books a month so anything that’s not in the top 20 is out.

    BQ: End procrastination.

  21. BQ: no booze, no smokes, put on a few more kgs. working so far.

the booze and smokes resolution was chosen for two reasons; the obvious health benefits but also I think it would be a crazy experience to go an extended period of time with those social crunches. It forces you to change habits and perspective

    • It does force other changes and activities- I know people who used to smoke 2 packs a day- figure 8 minutes a poke- 40 smokes- 320 minutes or 5.33333 hours smoking per day. Fuck! I occasionally smoke (once or twice a week), and do like a beer, just for disclosures’ sake.

    • BTW, Edward, good luck!

    • BQ: no hard liquer, no cigarettes
the occasional few beers, glass of wine and cigar are acceptable. the first 2 are just hard to control sometimes, so i’ve slowly phased them out over the last year. doing less and less
judging from past experience, it’ll last either 2 weeks or 2 years

    • This may help you guys. I read a little while back.. that because of the newer technology regarding mapping DNA. Scientists were able to compare (If i remember correctly).. before and after DNA sequences of smokers…. and the results showed on average 1 DNA change every 3 cigarettes … .. So you figure people that smoke a pack a day for a coupla decades are looking a tens of thousand of DNA changes… and unfortunately when our DNA changes we dont turn into wolverine we just get what william h macys got. It helped me reconsider social smoking.. HA.. OK did that help or did someone shit there pants…
Luckily I have comics otherwise i think i would be drinking much more heavily ladys and gents. Peace out. Speaking of which i tryed absinth for the first time over Halloween.. my god that stuff sucks.. I felt like i was going to get star wars “a new hope” but instead i got “jar jar binks”.. what a let down. I guess it would of helped if I liked candy liquorish.

    • I played a Jedi mind trick with myself…and yes, that totally works on me for some reason…I diverted smoking money into comics money and at this point I think comics vs. smoking…and comics always wins…

    • To get my friend to stop smoking, I reminded her of the saggy boobs she’ll have if she continues.

She stopped completely the next day.

    • Yeah, i was never a heavy smoker or drinker so quitting won’t be hard, it’s more of an experiment to see how i’ll think about things differently knowing I can’t do those things

@Blargo; Vanity is usually my main motivator as well

    • @iroberts
it was helpful and my pants are offically shat in.
i like absinthe. it’s not legal here in the states, so you have to either order it from europe or buy the french nock off called absinte and add wormwood from a tincture bottle.
i think i’m the only person in the world who likes jar jar. i know im not suppose to, but i just cant help it. that’s actually my other resolution. stop liking jar jar. i dont think it will take, though

  22. BATWING #5
    DETECTIVE COMICS #5
    WITCHBLADE #151
    AVENGERS: X-SANCTION #2 (OF 4)
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #19.1
    UNCANNY X-MEN #4
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN: ALPHA AND OMEGA #1 (OF 5)
    X-23 #20
    X-CLUB #2 (OF 5)
    X-MEN #23
PENGUIN: PAIN AND PREJUDICE #4 (OF 5)
    RED LANTERNS #5
    FATALE #1
    MUDMAN #2

BQ: no more snacks when watching tv in the evening, hoping to loose some weight in doing so

  23. Looks like a pretty solid week for me!

    ACTION COMICS #5
    ANIMAL MAN #5
    BATWING #5
    DETECTIVE COMICS #5
    STORMWATCH #5
    SWAMP THING #5
    UNCANNY X-MEN #4

Really looking forward to all of these except Uncanny and Batwing. Both fine books, but if they don’t get a little bit tighter then I may drop them.

BQ: Train for and succeed in doing either a Triathlon or Tough Mudder course in Sept( http://toughmudder.com/ ). This will also involve me quitting smoking and drinking. FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION.
