Marc Webb’s 2012 Spidey Movie To Be Called THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Word out of /Film, Columbia Pictures has finally issued Marc Webb's "3D Spider-Man Reboot" a proper title. Taking a page from Marvel Studio's Incredible Hulk revamp, the project takes its name from the original comic series.

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 3rd, 2012. In all three dimensions, of course.

Here's an authorized look at that oh-so controversial costume:

Andrew Garfield dresses up nice, don't he?

The premise of this particular photo seems to be, "Mechanical web shooters! See! For real! Trust us!"

Me? I'm really, really excited for this one. I don't think they've made a poor decision yet. And Garfield has the potential to be a genuinely amazing Spider-Man. Guy's got the chops. Guy's got the moves. And the proportional charisma of a spider.

Wait…that's not…

I think it's gonna be aces.

Comments

  1. Oh wow.  I was not excited at all about this movie but now that pic has renewed my hope.

  2. I can’t work out why it’s been controversial – it looks brilliant, more to the point it actually looks like it could exist in the real world.

    Great stuff 🙂

  3. I have hopes so far nothings ive seen ive thought is really bad

  4. im still not sold on that costume… but YAY mechanical webshooters!

  5. hope they continue this trend if there’s a sequel and call it “Web of Spider-Man” ort something like that. awesome!

  6. Well, I am still upset the size of his eyes don’t change with his expression.

Seriously though, this could be very, very good.

  7. Costume looks fine to me.  My main concern is that they don’t spend too much time on the origin story.  I’ve had enough of that.  They should be able to convey all the major points quickly then get on with a Spider-Man movie.

  8. I still don’t see how some highschool kid can get material like that to sew himself such a badass costume. I think they should do the whole movie with the outfit Peter did for his wrestling gig in the first movie.

Also, I agree with @stasisbal, we don’t need another damn origin story. No more!

  9. Other than the gloves, I think the costume looks pretty solid.  Can’t wait for this!!

  10. @THX7168  that costume might be a costume the wrestling venue makes for him, like they did in ultimate spider-man

  11. Ahh I love that costume, and that pose really shows it off nicely.

  12. I was already jazzed for this, but now I’m getting pretty close to opening night fever.

  13. That is impressive.

  14. I like the new duds.  But the mystery surrounding his footwear continues!!

  15. What’s on the tip of his thumbs?

  16. why is this costume controversial? Too much Did they get the wrong PMS colors for the red and the blue or something? Too much ballistic nylon?

Either way i love the title. Its about time they went for the iconic…you just can’t beat it.

  17. @MisterJ  I didn’t even notice that until you said something! His feet sure are mysteriously blacked out…

  18. It’s been quite awhile since I was excited to see a spider-man movie.  Love the suit!  The yellow eyes is a nice touch.

  19. Could it be that this Spider-Man doesn’t have powers? He’s sticky things on the ends of his fingers (presumably). He’s the mechanical webbies and the goggles look to have some sort of function as well.

  20. I still don’t know who the “villain” is supposed to be in this one? Have they said anything about that?

  21. @Tiocore  It is rumored that Rhys Ifans is playing the Lizard. But nothing definitive yet.

  22. Love the costume and like the title of the movie.

  23. Just: YAAAAAY

  24. @PaulMontgomery  IMDB does not say “rumored” http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0406975/

Don’t know how reliable they are though.

  25. @JNewcomb They also say Phillip Seymour Hoffman is playing Venom. So…

  26. Even when I was a kid I though the mechanical webshooters seemed wrong. If he’s SPIDERman, then he should be able to create webbing, no? I regarded at as a (gasp) flaw in the comics, which I was glad the movies corrected. Until now…

  27. So wait…. when Peter got bit by the spider it gave him the ability to grow mechanical contraptions on his arms? Did it also give him the power to look cool wearing a watch on the wrong side of your wrist?

  28. I just realized that the arms and hands remind me of the 2099 outfit. I like it.

  29. 60 Minutes should do an interview with the real Peter Parker and ask how it all went down. I heard he didn’t like his portrayal in the Sam Raimi films and said it was “…worse than the way they portrayed Andrew Garfield in The Social Network as Andrew Garfield playing that one guy who was sorta like friends with Zach Donkeybird, the leader of Facebook or what ever”

  30. @MisterJ  –they are waiting for Nike to officially announce the “Air Force One Arachnid” special edition shoes that spiderman will be wearing in the movie for product placement. lol

Paker is in High School in NYC…he needs some custom kicks.

  31. Looks pretty cool. I have no interest in this franchise anymore, but I’ll give it time. I really give a damn about X-Men: First Class, but that trailer got me really excited.

  32. Hmmm, I didn’t expect to be impressed but I am! Just when I’d gotten used to the mechanical web shooter idea being ditched as well.

  33. I’m glad spring is on the way, cuz we’ve got a gaggle of grumpy guses spreading gloom and more gloom all over the place.

  34. That costume kinda looks like he made it out of basketballs doesnt it.

  35. @wallythegreenmonster  YOu know, if I was back in undergrad, I would probably get a pair of those.  As long as they weren’t too high…

  36. Looks good to me. Relax and just go with it.

  37. @Conor I saw some raw footage of them doing stunts with the costume & there were metal braces at the bottom of each foot of the costume in order to help create the stunts. So I think they are blacking them out for now until they use special effects to get rid of the metal heel supports.

That being said I really can’t wait for this to come out!!!

  38. Sweet. Man, I hope Spidey is funy in this one. So far this is looking boss.

  39. That looks marvelous!  Kind of reminds me of the Ben Reilly costume, which is my favorite.  I am increasingly excited about this movie.

  40. i bet the stunt double in that costume feels all Sexy and what not

  41. Looks good.

  42. @stasisbal  Of course, they could stretch the origin out over 6 movies like Ultimate S-M.

  43. I wasn’t looking forward to the movie as much as I should have when I first heard about the realese but now hearing how its being more true to comic and the costume. Wow. Now they’ve peaked my interest. Wish the costumes eyes were a bit bigger though.

  44. Ditko eyes. Make them tiny specs! Smaller than Doritos I say!

  45. This looks Awesome. But i’m concern with the Twilight aspects of this project. It seems they are targeting that audience.

  46. @Jetstorm  I’m curious because I see this phrase thrown around a lot: what exactly are the “Twilight aspects”?

  47. That’s a great looking costume. Slightly altered to be a bit more modern but still has a lot of the classic elements to it.

Not sure why so many people are hating on it. I will say one thing though: What happened to the huge ass hair Garfield is sporting?

  48. The color and texture of the costume are awesome. The gloves still need a bit of tweaking IMHO. They’re just not appealing from a design standpoint.

Regarding the web-shooters. Maybe they’re still organic and Peter just uses the metal thingies as a sort of focusing nozzle to shoot the webs. This way they could have their cake and eat it too, in a way.

  49. @conor: Considering Garfield looks like Robert Pattinson outside the costume and the love story does have some similarites to Twilight.

….Not that I read it or anything. *darts eyes*

  50. Nice.  Put that right next to the one for the other three movies, and I think this one works much better than those (not that those were terrible…)

  51. @TNC: you’re a racist, mate. How do robert pattinson and Andrew Garfield look alike expect for being thin, tall and white?

  52. @edward  Don’t forget they both have brown hair.

  53. @Conor: It’s like how you look just like Michael Rosenbaum because you’re bald and i look like brad pitt because i’m heaps buff and pretty

  54. Costume looks pretty cool! Is it true that the movie will be set in High School?

  55. @kidCharlemagne Yes.

  56. I adore Andrew Garfield, though I am curious what movie you’re referring to when you say he has “the moves”… I suppose he’s a bit bouncy in The Imaginarium…

  57. @itsbecca  The Social Network. Seriously.

  58. Oh I thought you meant physicality.  Agreed then. He’s a charming little sucker.

  59. the costume is like a bad mixture of the old cinema spidey costume (from 1, 2, and 3) and ben reilly’s actual spidey costume (not scarlet spider… i love scarlet spider)

  60. @itsbecca  I do mean physically.

  61. nothing wrong with the title anyway; but i think someone else came up with that first you know
