Light Week? Try WOLVERINE #1, HAWKEYE, VOL. 1, BUDDY COPS (ONE-SHOT)

I’m forty-seven. Forty-seven years old. You know how I stayed alive this long? All these years? Comics. The spectacle of fearsome acts. Somebody steals from me, I cut off his hands. He offends me, I cut out his tongue. He rises against me, I cut off his head, stick it on a pike, raise it high up so all on the streets can see. That’s what preserves the order of things. Comics.

Wolverine #1

By Paul Cornell and Alan Davis

They say you can’t go home again, but Paul Cornell says nuts to that. After a stint at DC Comics, Cornell is back where he started in comics, and working on Wolverine, no less. And with Alan Davis, no less! One of the really fun things about Paul Cornell’s work is that I’m never quite sure what to expect, and while I wouldn’t have thought Wolverine would be the book, maybe it’s just the sniktet.

I’m so sorry for that.

Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon TP

By Matt Fraction & David Aja

Here it is. Have you been waiting to read what just might be the best comic book out there? If you have then here’s the first collection and now you have no excuse. There’s no other comic book with quite the personality and strong sense of identity that Hawkeye has and it’s been an absolute breath of fresh air to read. If you’ve found yourself getting tired of the same old same old superhero stories then give Hawkguy and his eccentric supporting cast a try.

Buddy Cops (One-Shot)

By Nate Cosby & Evan “Doc” Shaner

Meet Uranus and T.A.Z.E.R., two of tomorrow’s most accomplished most charismatic most punctual finest officers of the law. As for the ‘Buddy’ part, that might be a bit of a stretch. Expect some space kvetching. I’m increasingly eager for some giggles in my funny books these days, so I’m thrilled that Cosby and Shaner’s Buddy Cop misadventures have found their way to a convenient one-shot. Hoping to see much more of Doc’s work in the future. Guy’s a gem. You know he’s responsible for my Twitter icon? The Captain Haddock? Billions of bilious, blue blistering barnacles, he’s good.

Comments

  1. Buddy Cops sounds pretty neat! I hope my shop ordered it!

  2. Wolverine- me and you have a weird relationship but with Cornell at the wheel I will give it a chance.

  3. If there’s one artist who can fill my ‘cool art’ prescription, it’s “Doc” Shaner!

  4. I feel like buying a ton of Hawkguy TPBs and giving them out as gifts to bring new readers into the fold.

  5. I’m guessing Buddy Cops is the collection of the recent DHP chapters? It was a ton of fun!

  6. good recommendations all! I’m happy to see some the DHP stories getting put out in a single issue. Hopefully it will get more people to check it out. A lot of the stories that have been published in one issue have been really good.

  7. buddy cops is a lot of fun. i was surprised by how much i was enjoying it in DHP.

  8. Hollingsworth adds a lot of depth to the art already I place own any book he’s a part of, him being on Wolverine makes me wanna check it out, it didn’t pull it but will preview the art on my iPad then read it as a digital if it looks good. And I don’t know why but Alan Davis doesn’t seem to be as good as he’s hyped up to be, most of what I’ve seen seemed rather plain.

  9. *Hollingsworth adds a lot of depth to the art already in place to any book he’s a part of.

My guess is he’ll enhance this books art the way Dave Stewart does everything he colors.

  10. I was thinking of trying out Hawkeye since there’s been so much good word about it. First trade seems like as good a place as any to check it out.

  11. Oh, Nate Cosby, you are a sight for sore eyes. I miss him on twitter. Anyone else?
