Light Week? Try Ultimate X #3, Joker’s Asylum Mad Hatter #1, and Pale Horse #1

Sometimes you look down at that pull list that you just made and you realize there aren't many books on it and that you've got a light week! And that just won't do! You can't go all the way down to the comic book store for just a handful of books. It's at times like these that you need some suggestions on new comics to try. Well, luckily, we're here for you.

Ultimate X #3

Ultimate X #3

By Jeph Loeb & Arthur Adams

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of a few of these new Ultimate Comics line launches, and most of them have disappointed but Ultimate Comics X has actually been the gem of the bunch.  Jeph Loeb is teaming up with Art Adams to somewhat re-introduce the X-Men (sorta) into the Ultimate universe.  But beyond that, this is worth it alone simply for the wonderful Art Adams art, that man can draw and this is the latest example of how good he can be.

Joker's Asylum Mad Hatter

Joker's Asylum Mad Hatter #1

By Landry Walker, Keith Giffen & Bill Sienkiewicz

It was only recently that I joined the Sienkiewicz train.  I'd known his name forever and ever, but when I was 12, I was simply not ready for it, and couldn't appreciate his work.  These days, I can see it.  I can love it, to be honest.  He doesn't do that much interior work these days, and certainly not on his own, but this single issue is a rarity.  I don't care about the Mad Hatter, and I don't know who Landry Walker is, but this is one of those rare occasions where I'll be buying a comic solely and specifically for the art.

Conor says try:

Pale Horse #1

Pale Horse #1

By Andrew Cosby, Michael Alan Nelson & Christian Dibari

I don't know anything about this book other than it's a new western comic from Boom! Studios. So why am I excited and why should you check it out? Well, I love westerns and there just aren't enough of them being produced these days in comics. Also, I've really likeda almost everything that I've checked out from Boom! Studios. They do really interesting books, books that probably wouldn't get published at any of the Big Four companies. So if you tell me that Boom! is doing a western, I'll be there with chaps on. (And possibiliy nothing else. We'll see.)

Comments

  1. Everyone should buy that Mad Hatter one-shot. We need to encourage Sienkeiwicz to do more interiors! Seriously, he’s one of the most innovative people working in mainstream comics

  2. Ultimate X has been really good so far. Honestly I never thought I would like anything Loeb wrote, but I have enjoyed both issues so far. Plus, the art is so damn good.

  3. Apparently Landry Walker is a children’s comic writer. He’s done ‘Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the Eight Grade’ (which I always read is a fantastic kid mini) and he’s recently done the ‘Batman: Brave and the Bold’ tie in comic for the show. Oh and also BOOM!’s ‘The Incredibles’ with Mark Waid.

So I’m going to assume we’re going to see the darker side of Landry Walker with this.

  4. @ifanboy If you guys can, should try putting the pull tabs next to the images.

  5. Has there ever been a BOOM book reviewed on this site?
