Penguin: Pain & Prejudice #2

By Greg Hurwitz & Szymon Kudranski

Oswald Cobblepot is a mean, mean man. But how did he get that way? The first issue proved a terrific character study for one of Gotham’s most complex villains, and I’m itching to find out where Hurwitz takes the rest of this mini. Recommended for fans of Scott Snyder’s dark and poetic Batman stories.

Vertigo Resurrected: My Faith in Frankie #1

By Mike Carey, Sonny Liew, & Mark Hempel

Mike Carey has been around comics for a while now, and what he does better than anything is write young girls. I know, it’s a pigeonhole, but sometimes, it fits. We learned as much with Elaine in Lucifer, and with this mini-series from a few years back. Frankie finds out she has her own personal deity, and as she gets older, things get much more complicated, as you would expect obviously. It’s a great little story with wonderful art in a completely different style than most of the comics coming out recently.

The All-New Batman: The Brave and The Bold #13

By Sholly Fisch, Rick Burchett & Dan Davis

I may have dropped off watching the show, and I may have never picked up an issue of this series before, but there’s no way I’m missing this! Batman’s in big trouble and The Phantom Stranger (awesome) pulls in all the Robins that have ever been throughout the various timelines to help! SUPER AWESOME.

Comments

  1. That Vertigo reprint does look pretty good…

I might also be getting “DC Presents: Batman-Bad”. A 90s reprint of two stories from Legends of the Dark Knight series. One by Doug Moench and Barry Kitson; the other by A.J. Lieberman and Greg Scott. At least, I hope my LCS has a copy.

    • What am I saying!?

Apart from those two reprints, there’s a third option for me in the form of Kyle Higgins ‘Vision’ one-shot. Not really a fan of the overall idea of these one-shots; but Higgins has been doing a great job over at DC and the art for this one-shot looks amazing.

  2. I’ve been curious about My Faith in Frankie. #1 has been sitting in our back issue bins at work, I just haven’t gotten around to it.

  3. I’ve always been aware of My Faith in Frankie but never read it. I shall find this. And that Batman: Brave and the Bold looks awesome.

  4. Even though I loved the show, I never could get into the BaTB comic.

  5. holy crap, i am definitely picking up that brave and the bold. it sounds amazing

  6. Isn’t there one too many Robins on that cover? That is, unless the Robin directly above Nightwing is the Earth-2 Robin, in which case the costume is wrong.

  7. Snyder was tweeting about this issue of the Brave and the Bold comic the other day. The concept is pure comicbook awesomeness. Really interested to see how it turns out.

    • Personally, This looks like JUST like the kind of image that’s ripe for commissions.

In fact, I predict an ALL ROBIN ‘Sketch-Up’ at some point in the next twelve months!

  8. Yup, My Faith in Frankie is indeed awesome. I picked it up in issues when it first came out so I won’t be getting this but if you haven’t read it yet, Frankie is a really quirky, funny little comic book that is really worth checking out.

  9. Along with Penguin, people should pick up the Huntress miniseries as well. Marcus To is an awesome artist!

  10. The only downside to that Batman: Brave and the Bold issue is that it doesn’t feature Bruce Jr otherwise known as Robin II. That dude had red hair and a big ol’ “II” on his chest. What’s not to love?

  11. I haven’t read a single issue of the series and I don’t care for the animated series, but God knows I want that book.

  12. I will definitely go watch that tonight. Thanks for the tip.

  13. My Faqith in Frankie is really worth reading. I recommend it strongly

  14. Its worth watching just hear Ambush Bug voiced by…well, I’ll let you figure that one out.

  15. My shop was out of Vertigo Resurrected: MFiF but my shop owner said he’d get me the original issues from their warehouse. They were also shorted on Brave and the Bold and it was in demand. This is going to be classic issue, I think.
