Light Week? Try ORC STAIN #7 & BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED #1

It’s that notorious comic book “fifth week”! Is it something to dread because there aren’t a lot of books to look forward to? Or is it a one week reprieve on the ol’ wallet. Either way, here are some suggestions:

Orc Stain #7

By James Stokoe

One of the most insanely creative people in comics today is James Stokoe. Look at that cover above, his art speaks for itself. But what’s great is that he’s got the story chops to back it up.  Orc Stain was one of the shining gems of creativity when it first came out back in 2010, it’s awesome to have it back with new stories.

Batman Beyond Unlimited #1

By Adam Beechen, Norm Breyfogle, Derek Fridolfs, and Dustin Nguyen

I was never much of a Batman Beyond fan. I only checked it out when it tied into the past, like with the Return of The Joker movie or in the 2010 mini-series. Adam Beechen wrote that mini-series and he’s writing the lead story here and I’m looking forward to this because Adam Beechen writes the Batfamily good. Oh, also? Norm Breyfogle is back doing pencils. That’s the one DC revival from the 90s that I can get behind. Check this one out if you haven’t already read the chapters digitally.

Comments

  1. No Ralf Wiggum Comics #1?

  2. Why does it say “1 of 4” on the cover of BBU? 0_o

    • Because it’s not actually unlimited?

      (Sorry, I don’t have a real answer)

    • This is the print version of a digital “shorts” that they’ve been releasing every week or two. Every month, they collect everything that’s been released and put it in this book. This is happening over a specific period of time, although if this book is successful, I don’t see why they wouldn’t keep making it.

    • I know that already, but on DC’s website they usually put the (#1 to #X) next to the title when it’s a mini-series. Now, they didn’t or if they did I really missed it.

The way the sollicits are made though they seem to be made for an on-going. I’ll be sad if this is just a mini-series yet again… The Beyond universe is ripe with potential and greatness!

    • I’m 99.2% sure it’s not a miniseries, so don’t worry about it!

  3. Picking up both of these. I’m really looking forward to the new Orc Stain, though I need to dig out issue 6 because I forgot what happened in it and the cover is doing nothing for my memory.

  4. I’m actually not a huge fan of Orc Stain. The story sounds fine, but I cannot tell what I’m looking at from that cover. Are the eyes also mouths? Are those intestines? If so, who’s? I see some other clumps of things, but cannot tell what they are. I know he’s good because of all the detail, but I just can’t figure out what it is.

  5. I’m gonna pick up the tpb of The Fantastic Spider-Man.

  6. I hadn’t thought of that Batman Beyond book. I may check that out.

I have the first trade of Orc Stain and I still read through it. The art is nice to look at but every time I actually sit down to read it I’m not terribly interested. Maybe I’ll give it another try in honor of the light week.

  7. This is actually my biggest week in a while.

  8. It’s a light week but a good one for me. I’m getting Spaceman #4 and Usagi Yojimbo #144. Would recommend both series.

  9. light week (only getting LoSH #5 of 6 & Spaceman #4) so I will get Batman Beyond
