Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, & Kevin Maguire Re-Team For… JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000!

Justice League 3000_Batman_CBRIn the future, you will make all your purchases from Amazon and Wal-Mart and all of your comics will have Avengers or Justice League in the title.

Comic Book Resources has revealed that protecting that future will be Justice League 3000! And leading that team will be writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis and artist Kevin Maguire, the creators who periodically re-team to chase the dragon of the 1980s Justice League series that was extremely popular for its vaudevillian take on superheroes.

Could this time be different? Taking a look at the character designs by Howard Porter, this could be a more serious endeavor for the comedy team. That Batman design (right) looks downright dour, not to mention awesome. You can check out the rest of the team–Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash–at the above link.

This latest announcement will do nothing to quell the increased fan grumbling that almost every new book from Marvel or DC Comics is branded with “Avengers” or “Justice League,” respectively, but what can you do? The market speaks for itself. Justice League 3000 will join Justice League, Justice League of America, Justice League Dark, and Justice League Beyond on the roster of Justice League books. Assuming, of course, that those others are still being published later this year.

Justice League 3000 is set to hit comic book stores “this fall.”

  1. That looks interesting

  2. 1000 years later: still a sausage fest.

    • And white..

    • OOOOHHHHH! Good one. It’s ironic, I saw on the news last week that whites are going to be a minority in the US soon (Don’t know what’s changed when they announced that 10 years ago). Wasted opportunity here, I’ve been hoping for a black Wonder Woman in the future.

  3. I thought i noticed in solicits that Justice League Beyond was going away. So that’s one less JL book if it is.

  4. Woo hoo! Finally some new blood at DC!

  5. If this team decided to do an adaptation of the phone book, they’ve got my money.

  6. This had better be a direct relation to ROBIN 3000 or I walk.

  7. A redhead Flash huh?

  8. Are also counting Justice Legion? Or is this that?

  9. Awww, I hate that name.

    I like Justice League: Legion

  10. I’m guessing that we’d run out of space listing all the Avengers books. Say what you want about DC, Marvel has pumped out WAY more Avengers titles than DC has with JL.

  11. Since this will be safely separated from the New 52, I may check it out. Their best works right now are Adventures of Superman and Legends of the Dark Knight, along with the Batman Beyond stuff.

  12. Even if this is a more serious venture by this trio I’m down for this. How can you not buy a series by the team of JLI? Impossible is the answer.

  13. Sounds cool to me. Not only am I interested in a new DC book, I like all of the costume designs too!

  14. So glad to see this team getting back together.

  15. Looks kinda cool. I’ll give it a few issues.

I really like some of the designs, particularly Batman and Green Lantern. And apparently in the year 3000, people are finally ready for a Wonder Woman in pants.

  16. This also looks like a trade I may read someday.

  17. This is the best news that has come out of that mess of DCnU for quite some time now.

For those of you not familiar with the amazing run of Giffen/DeMatteis back in the 80’s I can only say that you have missed some of the best comics of the last decades. Seriously, they are that good.

If they manage to do half as good stories as they used to then we are all in for a treat!

  18. I guess I always thought the Justice League in the 1000 years was the Legion of Superheroes. Guess I was wrong. I will enjoy this though.

  19. Shut up and take my money!! Love the designs!

  20. I don’t care for the Wonder Woman, but the others are cool. I love the creators, so I’ll probably give it a shot.

  21. I love these creators, but I’m worried it will be 3.99.

Then I see the top 6 books pulled this week are all Marvel 3.99’s, so nobody here gives a shit.

    • Usually 3.99$ books published by DC are 40 pages of stories (like Batman Beyond Unlimited) or a backup (like Batman), so I wouldn’t be worried. 😉

Marvel, on the other hand, has a tendency to overprice books that sell well to make an extra-buck without making it thicker or anything.

  22. Definitely going to give this a look!

  23. Cool beans!!!
