It looks like we’re finally going to get FELL #10 soon. Maybe.

Last night Warren Ellis dropped this bombshell on his Twitter followers:

I think I did a triple take when I saw it. Could it be? Could it really be true?

The last time we saw an issue of the acclaimed crime series from writer Warren Ellis and artist Ben Templesmith it was late 2007. Since that time Fell has been talked about in both hushed tones and snaky asides. The hushed tones were usually asking when the next issue was going to come out and the answer was invariably pretty snarky.

But no matter! It looks like we might finally see a new issue come time soon.

For those who don't know, Fell was a series published by Image Comics by Ellis and Templesmith that told the story of Detective Richard Fell fighting against a tide of crime and despair in a place called Snowtown. The issues were one-and-dones and were told in 16 dense pages for $1.99. It was a book that always made its way into the discussion when people talked about the best comic book being published in 2007. And we here at iFanboy couldn't disagree — Josh, Ron, and I all loved it. We almost completely missed it, too! Fell was a book that none of us started reading when it first came out but the constant refrain from the 2007 iFanbase was best characterized as READ THIS BOOK! NOW! It finally sunk in and we all picked it up and were immediately hooked.

If you are at all curious about Fell and never got to try it, there is a trade paperback of the first 8 issues available: Fell, Vol. 1: Feral City. If you're a fan of crime comics or Warren Ellis or Ben Templesmith (it's some of each of their best work) you will not be disappointed.

  1. Yes!!! I saw Ben Templesmith’s tweet/facebook status last night and it said

Just got full script for FELL #10 in his inbox to start on next month

Might be a little while before we see it, but it appears that it’s at least in progress. Fingers crossed.

  2. Sweet

  3. Awesome!   I read the Fell trade for the first time about a month or two ago and I loved it.  I need to find issue #9 and that’ll hopefully sate my appetite till #10 comes out.

  4. This news just made my day! Thx, Conor!

  5. Color me surprised.

  6. I still feel a little sick to think of his harddrive failure and all the scripts he lost. Good to see it finally back on track.

  7. Yes, more Fell finally! Great book.

  8. YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Matthew

  9. Pretty much the same way he announced Planetary #27. Deja vu.

And as for his numerous HD failures, I’ve always found it funny that Mr. Technology himself doesn’t follow good backup procedures. Surely the UK has a carbonite.com-style service available.

  10. Oh happy days. One of my favorite books of the last decade. Ellis’s best as well as Templesmith’s most mature effort.

  11. I got the trade last year and absolutely FELL (ha!) in love with it. Then I found the seemingly hard to find 9th issue that is never put in a trade and also loved it too. Just everything I love about Ellis’s writing are in those pages of the series. Plus it brings me new found respect for Templesmith’s style. So cannot wait to see another issue of this and possibly more in the future.

  12. WHAT?! WOW!!!

That makes 2 issues since the first trade! Sweet! Only 4-6 more for the second tpb!!! Which should put us somewhere around 2018. Can’t wait!

  13. Incredible news!

  14. I won’t hold my breathe, but this is good news. I have missed this series.

  15. Very cool, issues are also all available via comixology…

  16. Yes!  Love that series.

  17. Sweet, now I have to get 1-9.

  18. 2011 please?

  19. My library owned the trade. It’s really amazing. Glad to hear the series is coming back. Here’s hoping Image reprints the un-traded issue 9 when issue 10 is finally released.

  20. YES!!!!

  21. I’ll believe it when I see it.

  22. Read the first issue on Comixology and thought it was awesome
Ive had my eye open for a trade ever since, hopefully Image resolitics the trade when #10 comes out

  23. @incredibledave  You can get the trade, right now, at the link in the article. It’s not out of print.

  24. Latest from Templesmith:

Ben Templesmith I won’t be able to start on the script til at least Feb sometime alas. Moving & finalizing a lot of things plus existing deadlines will sap a but of time. Might have an event to celebrate the return of FELL though!
