iFlashback! November 19th, 2003

It’s time for an iFlashback! A weekly feature in which we take a look at some comics that were on sale nine years ago. Why nine years and not ten? Well because our Mondays in 2012 sync up with the Wednesdays of 2003.

So jog down memory lane with me. The date is November 19th, 2003. The number one film in the box office is Elf and these are some of the comics at your local comic book shop.

By Judd Winick, Ale Garza, Trevor Scott

B.P.R.D: There’s Something Under My Bed

By Joe Harris, Adam Pollina

Wonder Woman #198

Human Target #4

That was the week that was in comics. A big week for Superman! So, did you read any of these books? If so let us know what you thought about them.

Comments

  1. I absolutely REFUSE to believe that a Superman/Thundercats crossover happened and I was not aware of it!

Also, I miss the Hell out of peter David’s Captain Marvel series.

    • Oh, it happened, and to the surprise of either everyone or no one, it was fucking AMAZING! I feel like I still have the Ed McGuiness covered original around here somewhere…

David’s Captain Marvel was amazing, but I fell out of love with it when he went bonkers. Got a little dark for my tastes.

And holy cats, how great is Liberty and Justice? I submit that it is pretty great.

  2. I have zero memory of the Superman Kansas thing… I loved the Dini nd Ross JLA book.

  3. I liked that BPRD story – but now looking at the cover – the monster has a very Stanley and His Monster vibe, right?

Human Target makes me miss the show – man, I liked that.

  4. They have seriously got to get their act together and either rerelease Lucifer in trades or create some Absolute editions for it!

  5. I assume someone else already asked this, but why do you always go back 9 years ago?

  6. Never read Lucifer but I’d like to. Guess I was too busy watching Elf at the time. I love Elf!

  7. Superman/Thundercats……I actually want to read this.

  8. Why do I have NO memory of “The Kansas Sighting?”

    I’m a BIG DC/Superman fan! …Was I mind-wiped??

  9. Kansas Sighting sounds like an interesting mini. I’m going to assume that isn’t collected so I guess that’ll be a NYCC search for next year.

Here are some other big events to occur on November 19th:

-1863: Abraham Lincoln delivers the ‘Gettysburg Address’ at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

  10. Loved Liberty and Justice!

  11. Peter David’s Captain Marvel was terrific and had some wonder CrissCross art. It did have a huge tonal shift halfway through, but was then just a very different type of terrific. I need to dig that series out soon.

  12. I love the Peter David Captain Marvel series, tonal shift n all. Also JLA Liberty and Justice. I love BPRD and just ordered that issue for $1 off tfaw.com. Kansas Sighting is something I’d most likely find interesting. Never read Lucifer but love Mike Carey’s Unwritten and would check that out.
