Hugo Weaving as Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger in Entertainment Weekly

Let this be a warning, kiddos. Sunscreen and ethnic tolerance are important. To your face!

We caught a peak in the woefully brief Super Bowl spot, but now we've finally got a substantial look at Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly

You want to talk about an alarmingly faithful representation? Marvel Studios and the artists working on Captain America: The First Avenger nailed this one.

  1. AMAZING.  This was what was really worrying me about this movie, and now…..no worries!

  2. Nazi bastard! Very good job make up guys!

  3. He looks great. He has a red skull. By Isaac aged 7.

  4. Bad. Ass.

  5. Love the Hydra belt buckle. It’s all about the accesories.

  6. Fantastic. He really does have the perfect face for this. And his costume is pretty sweet too.

  7. Oh man that looks fantastic!  Can’t wait for this movie!!!

  8. I wonder how long he had to sit in the make-up chair each day to get that end result?!?!?

  9. fucking phenomenal

  10. Damn he looks awesome.  That’s a great costume design, very clean with lots of interesting touches.

  11. Avatar photo Kelly (@annaluna) says:

I can’t stop staring at the layered straps. that is some gorgeous craftmanship.

  12. I would NOT want to hand in a late report to that guy.

  13. YES!!!

  14. unreal, love this.

  15. Looks great.

    Herr Skull the “Hydra Agent”

    *cough*NAZI*cough*

  16. I know Red Skull is Cap’s arch nemesis but I really wish it was Baron Zemo…

  17. That jacket is fly man! Belt buckle just adds to that “strict authority” vibe, very classy. You can tell Hydra is not just another gang of ner do wells, they are a highly organized… Organization that is aware if the importance of awesome public image. Whomever they got to design this is top notch! In house or outsourced? And where do you get them made once you designed them. Do you just put “uniforms and accessories” for terrorst org on the order form. Do govs check to whom you provide your services to? I’m sure w the patriot act shit like this wouldn’t fly.

  18. I think he looks amazing.

Question:  Do we know if there will be Nazi’s in this movie?  I think it would be silly if they only address Hyrda as an enemy and never come out and say there were nazi’s back in WWII.

  19. that is a fantastic job!

  20. that is one scary looking fascist. Looks really good.

  21. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Yes, it’s been confirmed that Hydra is a branch of the Nazi forces. There are nazis in the movie.

  22. @mikedwarner  I think the whole thing is Hydra working with the Nazi’s, like Hydra is the science and weapons dealer working with the nazi’s. but thats just what i’ve gleaned from interviews with production people

  23. Scary good… which makes this DC fan still more excited for this than Green Lantern.. *sigh*

  24. Oh man..  that looks scary fucking good!  Can’t wait for Captain America!

Heard a rumor that Green Lantern is pushed back to December because it didn’t test well with audiences? *groan*

  25. Damn that looks good! They got everything right and it looks so terrifyingly realistic.

Still curious how it will play when he’s actually talking. But right now they perfectly nailed Red Skull.

  26. Looks amazing but there is definitely a sense of plasicity, he looks like an extremely detailed action figure.

  27. I’d wager there’s some digital makeup FX, like the kind that take Ralph Fiennes’s nose away in “Harry Potter.”

  28. Wow, that looks really good

  29. Super Awesome!  I wish Hugo wasn’t always cast as the villain, but I guess he is the Gary Oldman of this decade…Yes, I remember LOTR.  Buzz off Comic Book guy!

  30. Very, very nice stuff here

  31. Looks great. I wonder how it looks when his mouth moves?

  32. I can’t stop smiling. And as soon as that belt buckle is for sale, I’m buying it.

  33. Man… I think Red Skull’s costume looks even better than Cap’s! Awesome stuff. I have to say, the production stills for this are making me quite excited for the movie, and I’ve never been much a Cap fan.

  34. @Cammy: Not to judge on that thought but, think about that for a second.

You want to buy a buckle that a Nazi wears……just saying. 🙂

  35. very well…Hail Hydra it is.

  36. That… is a seriously unpleasant looking individual.

  37. @TNC Yeah but people who don’t see the movie won’t get the reference, so I should be fine.

  38. Awesome. Can’t wait for this.

  39. really guys? Am I alone in thinking its a little too faithful and actually looks very silly?

  40. But will he still have the patent pended Hugo Weaving teeth gap?!?!

  41. I got a problem with costuming for this picture and for Cap. Yes, the designs are very cool but they do NOT look like period costumes (1940’s).

  42. @Toadmeister —i’d say get over it…the costumes look period-esque enough. Lets not forget, its a superhero movie, not a serious drama.

  43. Cap says, ” I don’t like it.”

  44. I have those TPS reports you wanted sir.

  45. *jaw hits floor* Wow. That is awesome.

  46. I thought he fought Mordor

  47. Looks great.  I can’t wait for this movie!  The summer is going to be awesome!

  48. What I like best about this photo is that it is 100% Red Skull but still looks like Hugo Weaving. Great job from the make up department.

  49. Awesome! I think I can live with the Hydra part if it looks thie bad ass.

  50. Hugo Weaving rocks, I loved him in V for Vendetta, masks and comic books are nothing new to this guy!

  51. Wasn’t he just fired from Dior?

  52. Great outfit and head. It gives off a good solid nasty feeling, not unlike the way I think of Darth Vader.
