“I wish I could think of insults as great as that. I kind of think this is how Marvel/DC fans used to throw down back in the day.” – Andres L. (SDucky25)

I know this is 1965 but….there wasn’t a better insult to use there? We should have a scholar figure out when ‘Your Momma’ jokes came to be.
Also, researching this issue shows this wasn’t the best Avengers line up ever.
If someone said that to me, I’d sure be offended. I friggen hate pickles!
How can you hate pickles?
-1
I’m indifferent to pickles.

I want to know what happens next.
“Oh no you didn’t accuse my uncle of eatin’ no damn pickles!! Thems fightin’ words!”
“Uncle Leroy! NoooooOOOO!!!”
“Hell yea. He loves pickles.”
How does it END!?!?!
Uncle Leroy: And themselves pickle boys sure do love them some Uncle Leroy, mmhmmm, they sure as heck do!
We had an uncle who ate pickles. The stigma was incredible. To this day there are parts of town we can’t travel to because they refer to us as the Picklesons.
Ouch!
That’s almost like saying, “Your uncle eats gherkins.” But in America.
I guess it’s closer to exactly like saying that.
and why “your uncle”…was this before “yo mamma” jokes?
I love pickles.
My wife enjoys them as well. You’re both weird. But, cucumbers? That’s where it’s at.
Have you ever tried these? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/09kool.html
@comicbookchris: That makes me weep for humanity.
@cBc – Now that I’ve gotta try.
Glad that you are…the only other pickle loving being that I know is one of my cousins, and I can’t convince her to try these.
WTF the is wrong with people? Kool-Aid & dill pickles, 2 great tastes that should be nowhere near each other.
You know what’s great? Deep-fried pickles. They’ve become a popular appetizer in restaurants.
Fried is the only way to eat a pickle. Making me crave Zaxby’s. Gotta agree with Mr. Reid though, cucumbers are where it’s at.
Ever tried half-sours? Those are really good. Cucumbers that have been pickled for like 20 minutes or something. One of the restaurants around here serves them.
depending on where you live, dill pickles at the movie theatre is a pretty fun tradition. Van Holten’s Pickle in a Pouch! haha
I just noticed the kids are wearing Avengers and FF shirts.
Early warnings of the internet?
Maybe there’s some kind of subtext here that modern readers don’t understand and they were trying to sneak something randy by the comic’s code. Also, pickles are delicious.
When will blonde and brunette adolescent boys learn to get along? Will there ever be peace between green jeans and blue jeans? … WAIT… Is that a pistol grip sticking outta his back pocket? Run, green jeans! RUN!
Now we know why green jeans lost the war. At the very least it’s a blackjack in Blue’s pocket.
It’s later revealed in that issue that the uncle had actually died in a horrible accident at a pickle factory, so the insult was actually not as mild as it seemed at first.
Shh! You’re giving away scenes from the new Spider-Man film!
HAHAHA! Good one.
Is that an anti-gay slur?
Also, that is some atrocious lettering.
I think it is. I’m pretty sure if I typed the modern day equivelant, my comment would be moderated. Like someone mentioned above, writers were almost more creative when they had to dodge the code.
Did he just tell that guy to put his pickle in a lamb? My 1950/60s urban dictionary is packed away…
Another good one. This article is proving to be very entertaining.
This is amazing that my “Great Moments in Comics History” got chosen! Love this site, and now I’m even more glad I threw down the money for that Avengers Omnibus! Thanks, guys!
Well done!
pretty sure im going to now add this insult to my regular rotation
I think the perfect comeback to that is “MY UNCLE’S DEAD!” then pretend to cry. Works every time.
Oh that as the next panel would be awesome!
Let’s not say things we can’t take back.
and thus, rap battling was born.
Shit, what ryhmes with “pickles”?!
“Trickles”?
“Nickels”?
“And your momma turns tricks in the alley for nickles!”
OH NO HE DIN’T!
OH YES I DID!
why I oughta…..
The judges would’ve also accepted “So’s ya muddah.”
Now everyone that read this is has “awww your uncle eats pickles” mentally all cued up and ready to tell someone off. And then we shall get decked.
Unless it happens to be a drunk closeted comic book fan who now thinks you are hitting on me…er, him.
Peter Parker and Flash Thompson are at it again. That line about his uncles ginna sting in a few years
You’ve won the internet this time.
Huge slam on pickles out of no where…? This obscure adaptation of an MST3k quote is brought to you by the Anteater Appreciation Guild…
