Great Moments in Comics History: Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #86

This week’s Great Moment was submitted by Jeff Reid and I’ll let him tell you about it:

Hey, remember that time when Jimmy Olsen became a Chief Military Advisory to the Nazi army? Well, it happened. And no, it’s not an “Imaginary Story” or anything. Olsen really did travel back to 1944 and began “helping” the Nazis. And he hung out with Hitler. All without speaking a lick of German. You’d think they’d have been suspicious, but luckily, they all spoke English.

Me? I’ll just say “oh, my.”

Comments

  1. I think this should also be in the what were they thinking category as well. I can not believe that they thought this would be appropriate for kids at all.

  2. Is it weird that Hitler looks a bit like Perry?

  3. What year is this from?

  4. It’s still more respect than he gets at the Daily Planet.

  5. So Perry finally pissed off Jimmy enough for him to jump ship and go to work for the Daily Bugle.

  6. Superman’s Pal my ass!

  7. I second Aalbatr0ss’s request for a date.

  8. Avatar photo Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) says:

    @Aalbatr0ss & stuclach – The issue’s cover date was July, 1965.

    Thanks for using my submission!

  9. This is why it’s important that you make a fine cup of coffee.  It can really take you places.

  10. Silver age Superman family books are better than everything.

  11. Eu Olsen is used to abuse from a crazy man.

If I can just say, god forbid if Tom Katers ever stops doing his podcast. But if he did, I think his next comic to do a podcast on is Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen. Lots of hilarity there Tom.

  12. @JeffR – That is unfortunately roughly 20 years too late.

  13. I’ve got a longstanding theory that the entire DCU is just a figment of Jimmy Olsen’s fevered imagination.

  14. Was he as good as the Desert Fox??  NIX!!

  15. So that explains why Olsen alway goosestepped around the Planet offices.

  16. I knew there was a reason i didn’t like Superman’s red headed step son.

  17. I think iFanboy.com should start a contents where they take a weird panel like this and have readers Photoshop/modify the dialogue.

@Heroville – Goering looks more like Perry to me. Adolf could easily be tweaked into JJJ! LOL

  18. Oh boy, scoring a gig in Hitler’s army as a General! Way to realise the dream of every kid in the 60’s, DC.

  19. You all should really check this out if you don’t know about it already:
