Fox Picks Up LOCKE AND KEY TV Series

As we reported last week, IDW's Locke & Key comic book series is heading to television, and now we know where to set our dials. If we still used dials. Huh. I guess with DVRs it really doesn't matter what channel it's on. How has the world changed so drastically, so fast? This is a brave new world where numbers don't even matter so much anym–

It's gonna be on Fox.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox has made a series commitment to Locke & Key, which will be produced by Dreamworks TV and K.O. Paper Products a subsidiary of Dunder Mifflin. Star Trek screenwriters Kurtzman and Orci executive produce, with Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) as show-runner.

Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez have produced a dark and inventive horror series, so I hope Friedman and company do them justice and Fox gives this project room to grow. If it misses the mark, that still hopefully draws attention to the books, which are a hell of a narrative achievement on their own.

Pick up those hardcovers so you can join the discussion when Locke & Key debuts…next summer, looks like.

  1. This series, as good as the story could be, will end up like Firefly, Wonderfalls, Freaks and Geeks, Undergrads, Arrested Development, etc and get cancelled before its time because the viewing public are mouth breathing shit for brains who watch Snooki whore it up and some show about Housewives. Wish some other network had this like SyFy or Spike on cable where it can get a reasonable audience and survive to tell its story.

  2. I just got the third hardcover in the mail the other day, can’t wait to read it and I can’t wait to see it on the tube.

  3. Great series, but like TheSwagger said, Fox could be a really bad move for this series, although I’ll keep my hopes up for now.

  4. I think two seasons would be perfect, I wish more shows would follow the British format. I much prefer two brilliant seasons to say 5 good ones.

  5. Really glad this is finally going to be on Television because I love the comic. However, I have the same fears as @TheSwagger becasue Fox is know to cancel good shows prematurally. I know this would make a better TV series than a movie because a movie would be to condensed, like Paul said. If it were a higher budget movie I’d love to see the effects crew that handles Gillermo del Toro’s movies do the effects for all the monsters and key effects.

  6. I enjoy the comic but it being on Fox means quick cancelation city if it fails.

  7. What I am about to say makes no sense. I know, good for comics, good for Joe Hill (love ’em!), good for IDW, can get people to read comics, I am a selfish prick because I want to keep all of the world’s cool things to myself so I can think I am cooler than I am, etc. etc. etc.

But this makes me want to stop reading Locke and Key. It just does. I don’t know why. I wish I could explain why. Maybe I’ll reflect on this and come back later.

  8. You’re absolutely right. That makes zero sense.

  9. Or you could just not watch the show.

  10. Hopefully they don’t force it on Fridays, like another comic show they have, and let it die a slow death.

  11. …it will be great and then it will be pre-empted for that non-hockey game and then its broadcast day will bounce around like a ping-pong ball in a box car…and then it will be cancelled…and then be replaced by a show about whores dancing, singing and whatnot in america…Foxy-indeed.

  12. see ya FRIDAY night on FOX….l{where series go to get cancelled} lol

this announcement was enough for me to download an issue or two on the ipad tomorrow

    I am in

  13. Last time i checked Fringe was on the brink of cancellation before the second season really heated up.  They never could get a good timeslot.  Wish it was HBO.  I wish everthing was on HBO.

  14. I can’t say how much I’m looking forward to seeing the couple of episodes that make it to air, probably out of order… and then picking up the DVDs after the idiots at the Fox Network decide to cancel the show.

  15. LOL @ the The Office gag.

Argh. One season and then, goodbye. Bad network choice.

  16. I can’t wait. This seems like it could be a great TV series if done properly.

  17. HBO/FX/AMC couldn’t save this one huh?

  18. Def can’t wait…. One of my favorite books by far.

  19. Agree with NawidA.
Fox will probably kill this . . . would be better on a cable network. All of my favorite shows are not on network TV. When will the networks learn about quality writing from the cable stations?
[Do the networks even have good writers anymore with all the "reality" shows they run? THEY ARE STILL CREATING NEW CSI and LAW & ORDER SHOWS! How about some originality!??]

  20. Joss says: "DON’T TRUST FOX!!!"

I give it one season due to their ineptness.
