First Look: Steve Gerber & Kevin Nowlan’s INFERNAL MAN-THING #1

If you’re anything like me, get ready to both flora and fawn over this next Marvel Comics preview, as the Infernal Man-Thing surfaces at Hollywood and Vine. Twenty years ago Steve Gerber planted the seed for “Screenplay of the Living Dead Man” and that mystery is about to be unraveled posthumously. This July, Kevin Nowlan is sculpting the story into a terrifying topiary, visually arresting and worthy of the Infernal monicker. Do you have the fortitude to stare, once again, into the fiery eyes of the Man-Thing?

Oh, also? Art Adams cover.

  1. This looks awesome.

  2. Does he live in a swamp?

  3. Looks cool. Is this just a one-shot?

    • It’s a three-issue miniseries, and will be collected in a hardback in September.

I’m curious as to what’s up with Manny’s new look and whether it’s exclusive to this one-off or a completely new redesign. Either way looks absolutely gorgeous.

  4. Marvel doesn’t get art like that. Nice job by them.

  5. This is fantastic.

I bought all of Hard Time in issues one day at my LCS, read them, liked it so much and wrote Steve an (embarrassingly emotional) email about how much I loved the series and his writing. He had actually died about eight hours prior to my sending it, I had no idea.

      Oh, wow.

I deeply loved Hard Time too. Not only it is a fantastic Gerber book (or Gerber/Skrenes, for Omega nostalgics like me) but it was my first exposure to Brian Hurtt, who has become one of my very fave comic book artists since.

  6. I always like Man-Thing better than Swamp Thing (though Moore’s run in ST was incredible). I’m glad to see this coming out.

  7. Looks funky. Kinda has a Kyle Baker vibe to it.

I love Gerber and I hope this script has aged well since he wrote it. You guys should get on the Howard the Duck wagon if you haven’t already.

  8. Very much looking forward to this…

  9. Absolutely stunning. What a great time to be a comics fan, huh? 🙂

  10. In that top middle one, he kind of looks like Snufalufagus. (had to look that one up)
