FIRST LOOK at Bendis and Maleev’s MOON KNIGHT

After several mentions by Marvel in late 2010, we're finally seeing the first art from a new Moon Knight series.

Oh yeah, it's by the same team who did Daredevil – Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev — and is set to launch in May 2011.

Marvel has tried on numerous occassions in the past few years to produce a viable series for this white knight, and it looks like they're stacking the odds in their favorite this time with an A-list creative team. Of course, it probably helps that Moon Knight is flashing Wolverine's claws, Spider-Man's webshooters and standing on Captain America's shield.

Comments

  1. Moon Knight: He’s not interesting enough until we put all of our more famous characters on the cover.

  2. awesome hopefully this will be more like daredevil and lees like spider woman

  3. i mean less

  4. Now THAT is the Maleev I knew and loved on Daredevil.

  5. Hmmm. I think my interest in this book just vanished.

And what’s happening with Scarlet now that Maleev is doing this? I don’t read it, but I’m still curious.

  6. This is a really interestig challenge-

If it works it will pay off Big.

Moon Knight has a lot of potential – I think his power set needs to be defined more

distinguish him from a batman knock off- and remind us what his edge is.

Truly hope they make this as badass as it could be.

  7. You can’t tell, but he’s also wearing Power Man’s old tiara and Iron Man’s undergarments.

  8. @Conor Amen brother

@Slockhart They were already planning this bok when Scarlet started. That’s why they made Scarlet bi-monthly, so they could do both.

  9. @huntersan182

So is Moon Knight bi-monthly as well?

  10. Dammit, I LIKED that Spider Woman book!

  11. I’ll be picking this up, purely because it’s the same team from perhaps the best Daredevil run ever (and yes, I am including Frank Miller in that).

  12. @TheNextChampion
    Solid Call.

  13. I see nothing good coming off this book. Bendis took up the assignment just cos his bromance buddy Quesada dared him to. I highly doubt it will come across as organic storytelling. Just more BMB lazy school-of-hack dross. Anyone who’s honest with themselves & has half a brain knows the last memorable & great thing those 2 created was Civil War:The Confession. How many years ago was that again?

  14. I have never read anything about Moon Knight, but he looks like a cool character, will definitely pick this up out of shear curiosity & for Maleev (God I Love Maleev <3) lol

  15. I LOVE Bendis and Maleev, so how could I not pick up this new Moon Knight?  Can’t wait!

  16. If anyone can make a Moon Knight series stick its this team. The only question is how long with either one of them stay on. If Bendis stayed on I would read this even without Maleev and vice versa but if they both leave there better be a damn good team coming on.

  17. Be warned, it’s also the same team that did Spider-woman…

  18. I’m in!  If Bendis keeps going with the gold he’s had in the last few issues of New Avengers and Ultimate Spider-Man, this could be classic.  Or they’ll leave the book after 6 issues and the title will be canceled 3 issues later.

  19. I’ve always likedMoon Knight since I was a kid but for some reason Marvel just can’t seem to get some steam under this character. <crossing fingers>

  20. I would be absolutely in love with Scarlet if Maleev drew that book this way.

  21. Seriously? What is this, the seventh Moon Knight series? There are other characters deserving of a series (“cough, Wonder Man, cough”)

  22. Can’t wait for this series. Moon Knight is my favorite character in superhero comics and its great that Marvels giving him this creative team. Kind of worried that they’ll be overfilling the book with other more popular characters (as this image kinda suggests), but I have hope that it’ll be done right. And also loving Maleev’s take on the character.

  23. Its the team that got me into comics doing a street level character who has been grossly mistreated. How can I not try?

  24. This sounds great  on paper, but I don’t know if Bendis can make me interested enough in Moon Knight. He failed at making Spider-Woman interesting to me… but fingers crossed.

  25. Moon Knight has Multiple Personality Disorder. My guess based on the cover and the tagline is that Bendis’ take will have Moon Knight’s multiple personalities manifest themselves as different character who are on the Avengers. This caters to Bendis’ propensity and skill for dialog and wedges popular characters in for the draw they have.

I have mixed feelings so far.

    Also, 4$.

  26. @ThePunisherMAX  Couldn’t have said it better myself! An all time favorite charachter who just has not had the right team on his book. Also, I do want a Moon Knight story not an endless crossover with other charachters.

  27. Moon Knight = Meh for me. I’ll trade wait on this one, paying attention only because I love the creative team.

  28. so based on that cover, Moon Knight will be a one man Avengers, maybe having a team in his mind? Could be interesting.

I heard Bendis on a Podcast a while back…coulda been wordballoon. he sounded super excited to do something really good with Moon Knight….this could be a winning combo that might get me seriously interested in Marvel’s “Batman”

  29. @themanagement  Me too

  30. I’m looking forward to see what is done with the character.

  31. An issue won’t hurt trying, eh?

  32. This is a character Bendis has professed an interest in since first came to Marvel so I certainly don’t think he’ll be phoning it in.  Also, despite the supernatural elements, its a character quite firmly in the Daredevil wheelhouse, so sign me up!

  33. I loved their Daredevil run and at one time I thought this creative team could do no wrong.  But then the Halo miniseries was pretty bad.  Spider-Woman did nothing for me (and was also still beating the Secret Invasion drum which had really burnt me out).  I couldn’t even finish the first issue of Scarlet.

But as odare said, this is in the Daredevil wheelhouse.  I’ve also always had some interest in Moon Knight.  So they get one more chance.

  34. so maybe this is a stupid question, or maybe i just don’t know enough about moon knight, but….. why are all those other characters appearing on this cover? Is moon knight a mixture of them in anyway? I just don’t understand. The only actual comic book material that i’ve read with him in it is the Secret Avengers, within which he plays less than a prominent role.

Anyone care to fill me in?

  35. @oopsxlandmine  He’s not a mix of those other characters. Why they are on there is something we’ll find out when the series comes out.

  36. Did Taskmaster all of a sudden become Moon Knight? I don’t really understand the advertising.

  37. @jmstump  Is it Taskmaster or Echo? 🙂

  38. effin Wolverine claws?  Seriously?

I hope that’s just some sort of metaphor, but that pic pretty much killed any iota of interest I may have had.  Oh well…

  39. @conor – I’m with you, if this is the Maleev we can expect on the book, then I may pick it up.

  40. Looks great. Can’t wait to check it out.
