Typically, I like to put CCR’s “Born on the Bayou” on a loop when I read issues of Scott Snyder’s Swamp Thing, but that’s probably a bit on the nose. Luckily, artist Yanick Paquette has composed a score for issues #7 and 8.
From Paquette’s DeviantArt blog:
Got a weird treat for you all,
For years, whenever I’ve been intensively drawing a comic project I often felt the need the write myself some music. I’ve found out multiplying my creative output mysteriously benefit them all. There is, usually, no link bridging my Comic and musical world. Some fugues and some String Quartet sketches have been paired with Batman Incorporated for instance.
This time, being so enthusiast for swamp thing, I went and wrote the scored for issue 7 & 8. OK, not really, but I’ve tried to cover their thematic stuff in a 3:16 of Full Orchestral Music.
The score will likely surprise you in that it’s quite whimsical, with lilting strings and graceful, somber movements. Not quite the crunchy Mastodon score of the Jonah Hex film that I admittedly expected, given the grim tone of the book. You can find links to various tracks, including an operatic battle suite on Paquette’s blog.

I can’t listen till I get home, so I have no way of knowing if I’d actually enjoy these “Botanical Beats,” but just the whole idea of immersing yourself so much into a project that you actually score it? What a badass.
I’ve always enjoyed creators releasing playlists and the like to accompany their work, but this just takes that to the next level.
I love mixing music with my comic. This is pretty cool!
Aww I was hoping for ‘Kiss By A Rose’….
Seriously though this is cool and it’s quite beautiful to listen to.
very cool,i love this kind of thing. It was great when Scott Snyder was posting music on Facebook to accompany his issues of “Severed”
Way cool. It sounds like the score from a really thrilling episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
Guys, guys!!!
Swamp Thing by The Chameleons U.K. f’ing awesome song on a f’ing awesome album!
“When the demon’s breaking down your door, you’ll still be staring down at the floor”
As an amateur composer/arranger, this was quite fun to hear! Really well done, totally different than anything I would come up with. Very impressed with the orchestral software he used for the sounds, compared to what I used.
