‘Arrow’ – S01E04 – “An Innocent Man”

More Oliver/Thea bonding! More Felicity Smoak! More lens flare!

Here’s how “An Innocent Man” is described:

Oliver (Stephen Amell) still hasn’t figured out how to get back in Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) good graces, but a late night bonding session with Thea (Willa Holland) gives him the inspiration he needs. Looking into a suspicious murder case, Oliver realizes an innocent man, Peter Declan (guest star Lane Edwards), was framed by one of the targets on his list. As Arrow, he asks Laurel to help prove Declan’s innocence. Meanwhile, Walter (guest star Colin Salmon) asks one of his employees, Felicity Smoak (guest star Emily Rickards), to look into a $2.6 million withdrawal that Moira (Susanna Thompson) made without his knowledge.

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

  1. Forgot to watch this tonight. Is it on the hulu?

  2. aww yeah bludhaven reference!

  3. DEATHSTROKE IN NEXT WEEKS EPISODE!!!!!!!!!! OMGOMGOMGOMG

  4. Avatar photo Jacen Chris (@jcbhatestweeter) says:

I yelled Barrowman like I was channeling David Tennant.

  5. This show has been a pleasant surprise.

  6. RIP Andy Diggle
    ; ___________ ;

  7. This show is great so far. I just wish they would drop Amell’s narration, that’s one of his weaker skills.

  8. My least favorite episode so far and I still liked it! The plot was pretty ridiculous, but I did enjoy the Laurel / masked man interactions. Laurel’s office chats with her co-worker seemed the most like Smallville of anything so far. And we get John Barrowman as a baddie, pretty cool.

  9. This show is a lot better and more competent than expected. It may not be Iron Man or Batman but it definitely takes it’s cues from those projects.

  10. I thought this was the best episode yet; it had some eyebrow raising moments (in a good way). I look forward to it every week.

  11. This is a great show. Even my wife loves it.

  12. I thought this was good but not great. It lacked the DC bad guys the other episodes have had, but it was still enjoyable. Some good character development moments. Wonder if Laurel’s opinion really changed, or if she just said that for her Dad’s benefit? Really liking the interactions between Ollie and his eventual mentor on the island too. I thought the writing was very well done in how those events mirrored what was happening in the current story. This show is a gem in a sea of crap, hope it has a long run!

  13. Did they change Arrow’s growly voice in this episode? I missed Ep. 3 but it seems like his voice dropped a couple octaves in this episode whenever he was talking to Laurel. Not the best episode but still pretty good. Hoping we’ll see Laurel take on the mantle of Black Canary sometime by the season’s end.

    • Yes, they did give him a Nolan Batman-esque voice when he was talking with Laurel. I assume this is because she knows him so well that she would instantly realize it was Ollie if he didn’t mask his voice somehow. I didn’t think it was horribly cheesy nor as extreme as Bale’s Bat-voice, but it was kind of surprising.

    • He activated a device before he started talking to Laurel.

    • Yeah I knew something was up with that voice. It’s an interesting choice. If he wanted to not immediately be noticed by Laurel though, maybe a mask would be better choice than green David Bowie make-up.

  14. Did I miss something? I thought that dude married to Ollie’s mom was in on whatever scheme she’s got going on? Other than that I really enjoyed this episode. I guess they moved Iron Heights to Starling City and I think we are beginning to see Dinah start to question the justice system a little bit, leading to her eventual role as Black Canary. Also, I hope Diggle becomes the Steel to Green Arrow’s Superman.

  15. The voice was weird other then that shows keeps getting better

  16. This was weakest episode for me. However, I loved Ollie getting arrested at the end.

  17. I don’t understand how some people didn’t notice the BEEP when he turned on the voice changing device. Sheesh.

  18. Can anyone else smell the potential for a Super-Maxi setting arising? After all, he’s pretty much caught to rights on the footage alone. But now he has an accomplice so they can throw him in jail and then write him out again thanks to Diggle who can be his accomplice on the outside. Diggle can don the hood for a few episodes while Ollie does some Rorscach style inside justice and then the legal system will say ‘well the Arrow was out there while Ollie was in there so he can’t be the Arrow after all…’ etc etc.

  19. I HATED Smallville, and have been avoiding this like the plague. But I saw the Hulu links here, and checked it out…OMG! This is so great!

  20. Every week i like this show more and more. Those cliffhangers are fantastic and the plot lines popping up are great. I thought the secret of what was in that Tempest warehouse (avoiding spoilers for those who haven’t seen it) was a huge shock. That was a big game changer for me. this went from a great, fun action show to a real legit mystery.

Also LOVE the flashbacks of Oliver on the island.

Can not wait to see You-Know-Who next week!

  21. I am really enjoying this show. Have a Tivo full of stuff and the only thing I am caught up is Arrow. Great to have some super hero action on tv. I never thought they would get to outting Oliver as being the Arrow so soon but sure there will be some twist that gets him out of it somehow.
