Another Diamond Skip Week In December 2012 [UPDATE]

In 2009, that pesky clump of holidays at the end of December prompted Diamond to take a powder for the week. This year? Same thing.

See, Christmas falls on a Tuesday this year, and Diamond isn’t going to ship out products on Monday, December 24. Some items may be included in the prior week’s shipment that should go on sale on Wednesday, December 26. This is similar to what happened with Blackest Night #6 in 2009. A bunch of retailers ended up selling that one early, because a lot of people suck, and can’t wait. There’s no word on what companies will be selling what products for sale that Wednesday, so we’ll see. Diamond will be shipping product on Friday December 28 for sale on Wednesday January 2, 2013.

Now, since we won’t have much for you in terms of comics that week, iFanboy would like to offer you some suggestions to fill your comic-less time that week. Perhaps you’d be interested in taking up any of the following activities.

Dressage?

Hydroponic farming?

Snowshoeing?

Knitting?

Smithing?

Remember, with no comics out there, be careful. It’s a big world.

UPDATE: DC Comics will be shipping three comics — Aquaman #15, Justice League #15, and Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #4 — to retailers a week early so they can sell them on December 26, should they see fit. Those issues are regularly scheduled to go on sale the following week.

Comments

  1. This may be a dumb question, but what about digital releases?

  2. Thank god I switched to digital.

  3. As hydroponic farming is likely to get me in trouble I’ll opt for Smithing

  4. Skinny skiing?

    Going to bullfights on acid?

  5. Isn’t the world scheduled to end on December 21st? So, it’s all moot, what is supposed to happen after that date, right?

    lol!!

  6. It’s all well and good the publishers supporting retailers, but when you have a growing audience who are strictly digital, it seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth to deny them their books.

I know my Christmas day will be spent working and reading comics, all the better if I have some new releases to wash the evening away

    • “…a bit of a kick in the teeth”

No more so than it is to expect struggling LCS’s to pay for the books early but then voluntarily sit on them instead of sell them during the Xmas rush.

It cuts both ways, and if it were up to me I’d just let the LCS’s sell ’em when they get ’em (and pay for ’em) AND let the digital releases go on sale a.s.a.p. as well. But instead people have to jockey for positions and play games.

    • @flapjaxx… Very good point that the retailers are expected to pay then not sell the product. The industry is pretty messed up. It’s no wonder comic retail sales are struggling!

  7. I had an unfortunate smelting accident Dec 2009 skip week…I will just watch TV this time around.

  8. I have nothing to say on the subject but this was a fantastic article:), well done Josh.

And i call Dressage! Whatever that is!

  9. But I want my Marvel NOW! now!*

    (*Veruca Salt voice)

  10. Do what I do and just buy a trade.

  11. That scary Santa on the link is mega spooky, yikes!

  12. I had considered elephant polo.

  13. no Yodeling or perfecting your Cosby Sweater collection? That’s where its at this year. =)

  14. Funnily enough, I do actually try to get out snowshoeing the week after Christmas.

  15. Re: the update. And this means I will probably get them the 19th because my retailer doesn’t pay attention.

  16. I was really hoping the update were most options on what to do if you don’t get comics.

  17. “Shipping product”, was that a referrence to Breaking Bad?

  18. Amazing Spider-man #700 (and I think Avenging Spider-man #15.1) is coming out on December 26th as well

  19. Sounds like a good time to catch up on all those tpbs I’m planning to get for X-mas

  20. It’s MADNESS! But thanks for the article guys! (now to plan my route of egress during the riot…)
