February 7, 2013 10:57 pm Bravo. This article is me. I am you, Jim. I've felt this way for YEARS. I always loved comic books, ever since I was yay-high running around in my Superman underwear. I started collecting again back in 2008, never missed a cross-over title for Superman and picked up every monthly comics I thought were cool because I loved the cover or just because I needed to follow Superman for being so loyal. Being around long enough now and being around the boards, I now know some names by heart and who people love in their writing or art teams but I tell you, I still have no a clue in most of these writers or artists even look like. I could walk past Scott Snyder tomorrow and not have a damn clue it was him on the way my LCS. Nice article. Give me my character. Give me my cover and comic book. Not a writer.
February 7, 2013 12:57 am Never read Green Arrow. Tomorrow, my first Oliver Queen issue will be purchased!
February 6, 2013 1:57 am I actually like what Lobdell brings to the table with Superman's voice. It's certainly different and that's exactly what I want to read nowadays. The problem is pretty much the over-use of cross-overs anymore. I enjoy this story, but you're right, it's been spinning wheels because a new writer is tied down to other books relying on the Superman title to begin with. There are some interesting developments takin' place here, but I hope it just doesn't come to an abrupt end like New Krypton with the needle failing to move an inch.
January 26, 2013 12:57 pm I'm a diehard Superman fan, but unlike characters like The Batman, Superman doesn't have that strong of a supporting cast to really dive into, rogue-wise (other than Luthor, Brainiac and villains like Bizarro or Mxy.) Being a big Supes fan and all, the need to follow the entire Super-family doesn't rank high on my list, which includes such titles of Superboy and Supergirl. That said, the Superboy and Supergirl issue's in this cross-over isn't as bad as what some people make it out to be. I think the cross-over event in general shines through in most of my reading, but this issue is tolerable and is necessary to the story. I'm enjoying the whole thing for what it's worth.
January 25, 2013 9:49 pm After the abrupt cross-over failure of "New Krypton" and "World of New Krypton" with DC pulling the plug on that event so quickly as it suffered down the stretch for a solid 2 years has me burnt out with these types of cross-over events as well. Kind of was hoping the new team of Lobdell and Rocafort had more time to establish their voice to the Super-Title before rushing into a big event with H'EL on Earth. Burnt out but still following.
January 24, 2013 8:57 pm Thanks man! It was my first review so I apologize if it seemed cluttered. Must be the format in the software to figure out how to space paragraphs and what not but I whole heatedly agree. I believe Super-Doomsday came in Issue 9, mimicking "Obama Superman" which was a break from setting up the new story arc going into "Nimrod" arc but it all plays a part. The trades are going to be fun, Morrison defiantly writes his stories for trades so you can read straight through and pick up everything along the way.
