A solid start. While it would have been nice to see the titular schism between Cyclops and Wolverine get laid out for us here, I can appreciate that we need to spend a little time understanding the friendship Scott and Logan have developed over the last few (realtime) years. It’s been hard to get a good sense of that from the regular monthly books, so I’ll let it slide that Schism #1 does not depict any schisms. The new villain introduced here is interesting, and while the whole “humanity hates and fears us and wants to kill us” angle is well-tread, the stakes do seem higher than ever (almost all the mutants, working and living together, very milita-like). In all, I wasn’t blown away, but I’m in for the ride.

The art was about the same. More than competent, really good on several occasions, but never jaw-droppingly beautiful. I liked seeing a stockier Wolverine, and in general the art did a nice job delivering a modern look with a timeless sensibility. And if the promo page at the end is true, Pacheco will be the sole artist on Gillen’s Uncanny relaunch – no mention of Greg Land :-)

My favorite moment: “Snikt” into the bedroom floor.

That snikt moment was good, but Wolvie wouldn’t have made that stupid sign on his door.

Maybe he didn’t make the sign. Looks like something would of girl proteges would have stuck on their for giggles.
