Growing up I always had a fascination with World War 2, the people the place and the moments. I tend to soak up whatever information i can find on it. I also grew up loving the X-Men (Most notably Colossus and Magneto) So I already have a predisposition to liking this book.
This is the middle of a story that has been fantastic and even though it is only 24 pages, the 3.99 cover price feels worth it. The character interactions and the historical back drops all feel genuine, even if we are talking about the origin of a future mutant terrorist who will live on an asteroid.
The progression of the story has kept Magneto's mutant ability out of the picture yet we saw a glimpse of it in the heartbreaking execution scene. Which is something I have come to admire, the richness of the family dynamic keeps much of the book together, yet in the background so much violence and pain is occurring. (On and off panel.)
This is a great read, that is unrelenting in showing the violence and bigotry of that time. It is one of my favorite books coming out every month, I will be sad to see it end. But when it does I hope it still remains at the level of excellence it has shown. It will make a wonderful hard cover in my and hopefully others collections.
