Well, that sucks.

I don’t mean the writing.  I don’t mean the plot.  I’m not talking about the dialogue, the inks, the layouts, or the pencils.  This is easily the best this book has looked artistically in over a year.  When I say “well, that sucks”, I’m describing that feeling you get after you watched a fantastic game where your favorite team lost.  You wish things had ended differently, but you applaud everyone involved.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

    Yeah this review is pretty spot on, everything about this book is great but its so sad at the end.

  5. cutty cutty says:

    Great review.  It was a very heroic sendoff for a great character.  I loved every single reaction from his teammates

  6. I couldn’t have summed up the experience better. Well said, sir.

    Spot on, good review!

    My ass is kicked and the two wolverine panels at the end made my eyes go all mushy and wet. Awesome read.

    [CENSORED] has always been my favorite ever since I started reading comics; and the ending of this issue actually brought a tear to my eye and a sinking feeling in my stomach.

    @cubman, cutty, comicBOOKchris, jesTr: Thanks.

    @rockingeek: It was well played that they had *gender neutral posessive prounoun* intuitive friend pick up on it instead of a psychic character.  They could have easily Claremontized it by having Professor X or (is Psylocke psychic again, or still just telekenetic…I keep losing track) someone say "Oh, no.  *censored* has just left the earthly realm!"

    @Askanison: It’s been a while since *censored* was written well, so I’m glad they gave *gender neutral pronoun* a proper sendoff.

  11. rockingeek rockingeek says:

    @akamuu: Psylocke is psychic again and SPOILER!!!! yes, the fact that no psychic felt it first was clever… made more question marks popped in my little head. With elf being half demon and all, I hope we’ll get over the top stories for him in the near future. I’m fucking sure he’s going to show up in Hellbound! Well, we’ll see.

    @rockingeek: Thanks for the update.  She’s gone back and forth so many times, I’ve lost track.

    She has the butterfly eyes again, which I think indicates telepathy. A big reason Psylocke’s power set is so confusing is that during one X-reboot (Revolution?) Marvel jumped forward in time and some things were different. I think this was the first time they gave Psylocke any significant TK and took away her telepathy. The reboot was a god-awful mess, most of the changes were never explained, and most characters eventually quietly reverted to how they had been before. About that time Claremont killed her off in his X-Treme series (which wasn’t that bad, actually, featuring some sweet earlier Larroca art), which Schroedinger Cat-like froze her in this state of uncertainty. When she was finally returned it was by her Reality-altering brother, Jamie. Reality-altering…sigh. Great, now her powers were anything her brother wanted to allow. Well, when you fucked up a character this badly the only thing to do is abduct her into the Exiles series, which they did. And then Fraction grabbed her back and the recent mini-series did exactly jack squat to clarify any of that. Except they have doubly and triply destroyed her caucasian body. So there is that.
