Okay after Ron’s great review of the 2nd installment of this series I had to see what this title was about. So I bought this trade, gave it a read, and what I thought was….This was pretty damn good.

I could tell you what the story is about, but to be honest….I have no idea what the fucked happened in this. Now that sounds bad, to be clear though that I am reviewing this right after finishing this and that this plot is almost hard to describe. To put it in the simplest terms; a group of superpowered adopted children come back together to fight an evil group trying to destroy the world….and their sister is part of the evil group….oh and there is a smart chimpanzee. There is so much going on in this comic it’s hard to pin point what I liked about it. It’s so much info on every page and so much craziness that I think I need to read this again. But there is a lot of humor in this, and a lot of cool moments in here. Not to sound this in a negative light but this comic like a five year old writing this. Now what I mean is that, it seems like every page has a random cool moment and Way seems to be just to be thinking of this plot on the fly.

On the art front, boy was this a gorgeous title. Again it’s hard to pin point what is so great about it but it’s easier then to talk about the plot. It sort of has the same vein to Hellboy comics. Sort of Mignola-like or anyone else that can draw a Hellboy comic. In fact, I would love to see Gabriel Ba do a Hellboy comic in the future. But there is a lot of kinetic pace to this to go with the kinetic story. What I like about the art are the opening moments of each chapter. When the title is introduced it’s a beautiful splash page and the font of each title…beautiful.

So yeah, I mean I loved this comic and I am all for the second installment when it’s out in trade. But it’s just hard to pinpoint what is so great about this comic. What you can tell by this review is that there is no other comic like this out today. It’s wildly imaginative and has some beautiful art to match. So whether your a fan of Way’s music ability or not, it shouldnt factor into this reading experience. Just sit back, turn off the music, and enjoy the ride….Well I would think Way in general would like for you to listen ‘My Chemical Romance’ while reading this…

Story: 4 - Very Good
