This arc has been on and off with me for the last couple of months. In one way this has been somewhat boring arc, with very little to really like. On the other hand there are issues that are jam pack with the Ultimate Spider-Man I like. I was hoping after the last issue with a great Ultimates fight and Parker learning he might have caused WWIII….that this issue would be just as good. But sadly this issue falls into the category of medicore and I’m really starting to doubt the man known as Bendis.

Dont get me wrong, I love Ultimate Spider-Man, it’s much better then anything the Amazing issues has given me. But this issue was just boring and felt so rushed that it’s hard to really care what is going on. I realised that if it wasnt for some ads, most of this book takes place on two page spreads. If there isnt two page spreads then most of the time the panels are very narrow and fill the entire page. It just reeks of lazyness and it feels like Bendis is really stretching to get this arc over with. The best example is Parker at the Bugle learning more about Raxxon and the symbiote. Now we didnt need six narrow panels to show us this…but Immonen and Bendis decided to go that route.

Overall there really isnt anything to say about this issue. The return of Gwen Stacy (aka Carnage) should’ve been a big moment. But it falls flat and I really dont know what else to say about this book. The art is nice but the panel layouts are just puzzling and felt unnesscary. In short: With this and SI this week, I am getting very worried on the writing aspects of Bendis. Seriously.
