The nicest thing I could say about this issue is that Declan Shalvey needs to get more work in 2012. It’s unbelievable that a series like this has such a talented artist such as Declan. The pages in this particular issue are so well done it’s hard to put it in words. The one page where Ghost gets sucked into the time traveling axe (don’t ask) is worth the issue itself with the art. So I have nothing bad to say about this issue in terms of the art.
The story on the other hand is really disappointing. It really feels like Parker had a great idea going with this time traveling adventure but only wrote a few notes down and not overall storyarcs for each. This issue feels so rushed and is filled with so much exposition it feels like more then could have been spent tightening it up a bit. There are some good moments in this, like Boomerang complaining that no one appreciates him or Troll really getting a voice of her own. But outside of that the story is pretty weak here and probably the worst of this Jeff Parker run. (And that’s saying something considering all the issues before this have been great) So if I would have to recommend this issue I would say look at the jaw droppingly gorgeous art and skip the story. Hopefully the T-Bolts next time traveling adventure is more thought out.
Art: 5 - Excellent
