Well isnt this new and different?

The election season is upon us, and IDW decides to do two (three if you count the book with both canidates) comics about the canidates. I’ve never heard of something like this being done before, so this is an interesting idea that really can only be done presumibly every four years. First up it’s Obama and I must admit, I am voting for him. But I will try my best not to get preachy about why I like him and why he could/should be president. This is about the canidate and not the issues, which people on this site seem to confuse a bit with this.

Basically it’s a mini biography of Obama and it’s really well done. It’s practically all narration and it reads more like a prose book then anything else. We see the raising of Obama, to some of his more hippie days as a young adult, to his role as Senator of Illinois, and the most recent campaign struggles of trying to be president. It’s interesting to see the non-bias look at Obama and the writer (who I never heard of) did a great job making sure it isnt bias at all. The art is pretty good too, very realistic and I’m sure they made a lot of real life references to the places and settings of each panel.

It’s weird again to see something like this. It’s the first time anyone has tried making a comic about both canidates for an election and it for the Obama issue it really works here. Is it going to make or break the election? Hell no. This is just an interesting and a good in-sight to the life of the first African-American canidate for president. Hey if you dont wanna waste the 14-20 bucks on his real biography, why not give this cheaper one a chance?

  1. Good review. This really looked to be just IDW cashing in, but it’s good to see that it’s a well-executed little educational piece.
