If there is one thing that I can say is consistent about Kyle Higgins Nightwing is that the dude loves to see Dick getting it on with ladies. This is the 4/4 now that Dick has not only wooed a woman but also the fourth time he totally has sex with them. (Not the same girl but still pretty damn impressive)

Apart from the Austin Powers Nightwing I’m growing to love, this was an alright issue. Not the best of this run so far only because I think going the route of Batgirl, especially with her confusing new reboot, was probably not the best person to team up with. I know she fits well with this whole dilemma of whether Dick truly loves Raya or not. But the crime fighting part of this, with the horribly new named villain ‘Spinebender’, was really nothing special. I think if it was Dick and Tim working together the quips would have been better and so would the relationship within the pages.

The art by fill in artist Trevor McCarthy, who I’ve grown on since Gates of Gotham, is a nice surprise. Now it’s not all perfect with some confusing layouts in the beginning and some really freakish looking designs of Dick outside the costume (that came out wrong…). Overall what is on the page, confusing or weird to look at aside, is really beautiful to look at. I mean the opening two page spread is great with Batgirl flying through the air and throwing batarangs. Plus McCarthy does draw some pretty women and it helps out early on when Dick is….getting it on.

All and all it’s a nice filler issue to get us from one storyarc to the next. Not the best issue of this run so far but certainly not bad in any way. I would love to see more of Trevor McCarthy on a book down the road though especially with Higgins on the writing.
