I think this confirms to me that Matt Fraction and David Aja are the best of all possible creative teams. That is obviously hyperbole, but after these first three issues I am finding it hard to overstate my love for this creative team.

I first saw them in The Immortal Iron Fist, where they blew my socks off and this might as well be call The Immortal Iron Fist: The Hawkeye Years. That is a compliment by the way. Fraction’s writing on team books has never really floated my boat, but when you ask him to write a really cool dude, there is literally no one better. Snappy, funny dialogue and excellent characterisation all achieved with with minimal words on the page.

Fraction’s writing is, of course, ably facilitated by David Aja and would not be as good without it. There is a great scene with Clint and Kate in her car which is so brilliantly acted, you can’t help but laugh. There is a fight scene, a chase scene and some romance and all those diverse elements are represented brilliantly.

There are many ways of measuring the quality of a comic book. In this case I think it can be best summed up by saying: I read it in 5 minutes flat and then went back to the start to read it again.

Supreme story telling on all fronts, I hope this team stays together for a long time on this book.
