Whenever you use Hawkeye’s mask to cover up Hawkeye’s crotchal junk, you have a five star comic–without question.

The main reason this comic works is that each issue works like a single story in a collection of short stories. Each issue can be read as a stand-alone; however, each issue also builds thematically from the previous issues, as well.

While most comics would try to engage readers with cliff-hangers and dangling questions–kind of like Hawkeye’s err, just read it–Hawkeye #3 has no product but the story itself. Fraction frames each story so well and uses repeated conversations and images to build humor, suspense, and, yes, even drama.

Overall, Hawkeye #3 is a great example of storytelling at its best and leaves me with nothing left to say, but “Damn: it’s good.”
