I had been led to believe that Williams had wrapped up his run as artist on Detective.  I may or may not have had to dab my eyes with tissues (because I have allergies, jerk, it’s just allergies) when thinking about a Willliamsless Detective series.  Luckily, for me, I was misled.  And, while the art style is a bit different than his first storyline, it’s awesomely and deliberately different.  This issue starts off the origin of Batwoman, and, so as not to spoil it, all I can say is Yes.  Yes to Williams’s shiftin pencil style.  Yes to Rucka’s development of Batwoman’s family.  Yes, yes, yes, to the panel layouts.  And Williams rips us out of the flashback and throws us into the chaos of the present story so fast, he leaves batshaped tears in the panels of a gorgeous two-page spread.

I’m not done reading all my books this week, but I think a character is going to have to jump out of a book and commit some sort of pleasurable sexual deviancy to outdo this one.  And, to be clear, Wolverine is not allowed to be that character.
