I don't know how many people are reading this in general, but I see there were 280 pulls on ifanboy which is really encouraging because this is great, fun comics. While it has a slight link to Dark Reign (possibly a sales ploy, along with the cover banner?) this is just a great old school Fantastic Four sci fi adventure story. There are three threads of the same overall story, each of which is barrelling along. Sue, Ben and Johnny tumble through realities experiencing various battles through their parallel counterparts with some great imagery from Chen, especially the flying sailing ships. Meanwhile Reed flicks through variations on our Earth's recent history with the Illuminati and the Skrull invasion. Then, back home in the Baxter Building, Franklin and Valeria look like they're preparing to take on the might of Norman Osbourne and HAMMER, in the real beating heart strand of the story. Their relationship to each other is beautifully played.
Hickman seems to have been given Secret Invasion/Dark Reign as his essential jumping off point and to have been allowed to just go wild. To me there seems very little sense to the Sue/Ben/Johnny reality jumping, yet it works, it's entertaining. There's nothing new in all this parallel Earth stuff, but it done in a fresh and invigorated way. We're in the middle of the Dark Reign shenanigans but this isn't beholden to it or ruled by it. Oh, and while I'm at it, can I point out those colours by John Rauch? There's nothing muddy here, they're lovely and bright and breezy. A class act all around.
