So it’s impossible to find any printings of the first three issues. So instead of waiting for trade, or praying for the reprints, I am going to give this series a try as is. I have no doubt that this could confuse me, or I might not like it because this is part four of a five part arc. But I don’t care because I want to give this a try.

Even with all the confusion or lack of knowledge with the side characters. I loved every page of this story. It’s so damn bizzare, and in a good way. It’s bizzare and original, that’s all I can really say about it. Well I could continue saying that Layman’s style of humor works well with this setting. The whole sequence with the ashes and urn was so hilarious. Plus it was perfectly timed too, you don’t see well timed jokes for comics as much as you used to. Also, you have a sheep joke involving sex….and it’s always a laugh for me. The character interactions are great, I love this big brute of a partner Chu has. Kinda reminds me of Bluto from the Popeeye cartoons.

Then you got the art by Rob Guillory, who is certainly making himself a big name with this book. Love the look of this comic, absolutely adore it. It’s like reading a very messed up saturday morning cartoon. Also reminds me a lot of a simplier animation style of Bill Plympton. Very expressive faces mixed in with beautiful backgrounds make NextChampion love this comic. Also, again witht he urn joke, that was a great sequence of panels. It just feels realistic on how long it took for the ashes to settle.

One day I will find the first three issues of this comic. Hopefully that doesn’t come from eBay or costs me more then my first car. As a first issue it certainly isn’t a jumping on point. But there’s enough in here to really enjoy yourself and not caring on what happens before it. If people still aren’t down with this comic, I say this would be the best time to jump on. Just read it and enjoy the creativity. I certainly did.
