Catwoman 14 is the best issue of the series. It is a mature read that reminds Bat fans of the Killing Joke with its cruel depiction of the Joker and his psychopathy. It is a mature read with adult themes, misogynistic tone and cruel violence. In spite of the horror created by the Joker, it is witty, entertaining and provocative. If you are not reading Death of the Family, you need to start immediately. The Catwoman prong of DOTF is exceptional. I can not encourage readers enough to pick up this issue.

  1. I agree totally. The art is incredible. I loved how she told off the Joker. I wish she would have gone ahead and clawed his extra face right off, but I guess they have to finish this one out eventually somewhere else. My one quibble is that when she told the Joker that he didn’t even have any lips to kiss with, in that very panel, there he is puckered up with his mask lips somehow, kissing her on the cheek. There was obviously a snafu between the writer and the artist on this one.

But that having been said, Rafa Sandoval is one of my favorite artists currently on the scene. I’ve followed his work since Ultimate Secret, and I’m sure he’ll soon be on a much higher profile book–let’s enjoy this while we can!

  2. Fellow readers, please note that this reviewer states “It is a mature read” at least twice in as many sentences. You have to be able to enjoy reading about misogynitstic torture. If you can’t then you are likely to come to a different opinion of this issue.

In all fairness I cannot stomach that kind of story and this issue really drove me to the point I cancelled my subscription. So if this is a subject matter you are game enough to read and enjoy you’ll like it. Otherwise steer well clear.
