Jason Aaron has done two impossible things with this Black Panther arc, three actually if you count that we’re actually talking about Black Panther.

1) He’s made Black Panther a more relevant figure with the Marvel U. Sure everyone says Wakanda and the people in the city are bad-ass’s. But to me we never really see that at all, until this issue. Panther is a great leader and the twist in this issue was pretty damn good, I felt bad what was happening to him and Storm until the big reveal.

2) The Skrulls actually have a personality, other then being God worshipers. Aaron has made me care about these Skrulls since this started on issue 39. I actually felt bad to the General of this army and his fate is so damn sad. Writing a letter to his family while practically dying on his ship is so damn heart wrenching. Good show Aaron!

The art is still a bit of a mixed bag here for me. Too dark in some places, and the models arent really that detailed, especially for the Skrulls. In fact the lettering got to me a bit cause it was so small, hard to read. Even still Aaron gave me a reason to read this series, even if I am jumping off-board after this. I hope someone learns this lesson in terms of writing this series by just looking at Aaron’s work. It might be a tie-in but damnit, you can write a good Panther story if you just try a little hard.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good

  1. In addition to agreeing with everything you just wrote, how about that sucky cover? By the time I was sick of all the zombie covers, we get every hero in the universe as a Skrull on the cover. I’ll be so happy when we get covers that show regular super heroes and villains again.

  2. The cover is brutal. However, Aaron’s conclusion to the See Wakanda and Die story was solid. The last few pages, in which the Panther sent a spaceship labeled "This is what happens when you invade Wakanda" essentially echoed what he did in the first few issues of the current volume of Black Panther, which was cool thematically.
