I’m really glad this part of The Gauntlet is over.  I know many of you are fans of Pulido’s art, but I think it’s wildly inconsistent.  While not liking the color pallete is the basis for my dislike, there’s also the fact that his anatomy sucks.  Spidey’s neck giraffes and turtles, and is often at angles that would require him to have some sort of liquid spine.  And Keemia’s eyes fish to the side whenever the camera zooms out.

Writing-wise, the Sandman arc has been interesting, but not as urgent as the Electro story that preceded it.  Also, the way Sandman Madroxes in this issue seems really forced.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 2 - Average

  1. Is that the first use of "to Madrox" as a verb? I’m nominating it for word of the year.

i.e. I wish I’d filed that patent before it Madroxed all over the internet.

  2. It’s not just that he multiplies it’s that….***SPOILER ALERT*** his multiples appear to have their own personalities and act independently of each other.

  3. Oh wow, I’d be completely happy if Pulido and Martin were the only artists on Spider-Man. I actually read your review before the issue for some reason, so I was looking for "fish eyes." I only saw two panels where I’d say Keemia’s eyes look like fish eyes. Perhaps that is two panels to many. I didn’t notice anything glaring about Spider-Man’s anatomy.
