  1. shit, Dexter Soy can’t finish his first arc on a new book. Oh dear. Not such a great loss though.

    • I don’t think that’s entirely accurate — Carol just jumped from the 1940s to another time period, so the art change makes some sense.

    • I know you are trying to give the book the benefit of the doubt, but Carol has already jumped from now to the 1940’s without any art change.

I must say, I feel for the artist and although it might read as cynical it is a genuine shame if the guy can’t finish his arc on a new headline book. I’m not a huge fan of his style, but I still find it sad when any artist, for any reason, can’t complete a full arc.

    • I’m definitely looking to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but I’m still not convinced that the apparent inability to finish the arc is at all Dexter Soy’s fault. If anything, I think the erratic double shipping Marvel’s been using lately (coupled with not enough lead time for the artist) might be more to blame.

Issue #1 came out on July 18, but then the book double shipped in August (#2 on the 15th, and #3 on the 29th). Issue #4 came out September 26th, and now issue #5 is here three weeks after that.

And issue #6 will be out on Halloween in two weeks, if Marvel’s release calendar is accurate.

I know it’s super-tough for most modern artists to crank out a monthly book, but the double shipping has gotta bug the crap out of the artists who are just a tad too slow for monthly books.

In the end, you may be exactly right, and he just couldn’t get it done, but I suspect there’s more at play here.

  2. Emma Rios?

This just went from “I’ll give it six issues” to “Sleeper Hit of the Year”.

    Thank you, uncertain fate.

With my apologies to Mister Soy.

  3. I really want to love this book. I think the character is great, and DeConnick has a good handle on her. However the story so far, and, I’m sorry to say, the art, has left me disinterested.

I’m on board for a few more issues, but I’m hoping we get to the meat of what this series is all about soon.

    • I’m with you (although I don’t mind the art). I can’t really explain why I’m still reading this. It’s like I am trying to convince myself to like it more than I do. Gonna give it one more issue then may cut my losses.

  4. I dont know what your all talking about.
Ive really enjoyed Dexter Soy’s creative art stlye.
I hope he returns to the book soon.
It be perfect if it just kept switching between him and Emma Rios. There both intresting and fantastic!
Oh, and this is going to hold over until Pretty Deadly comes out!
Its gonna be great to soon be getting double does of Deconick!

  5. You know what would really help sell me on this? Some good villains. Of course, I have been saying that for far too too long, Marvel Comics.

  6. D’you know what? I was enjoying this book alright, it was filling my roster of books fairly well, but it was not really floating my boat as well as I had hoped it would. When I saw Emma Rios on the cover I thought that was cool, but maybe not quite right for this style of book. How wrong I was. This just went from alright, to all good in the space of 1 issue. Cant wait for next month.

  7. I tried this one out, and really dug it! Though I would like Emma Rios to stay on it, but I’m guessing this is a one off kinda deal.
