  1. Really excited to see what role Ex Nihilo has to play with the new Starbrand?

  2. Is this the real New Universe or the crappy fizzled-out Warren Ellis reboot?

  3. I like this new series. Mostly, because it barely feels like an Avengers book.

  4. This book is really starting to pick up momentum for me. Looking forward to this.

  5. I’m hoping to see Justice or a variation of him from the New Universe show up.

  6. Ending my subscription at #12.

Was gonna stay for the whole first year.

Got a feeling I’ll just pick up the back issues next year at a sale or con.

  7. Last issue was pretty damn good, definitely brought back the fun that was missing from the last couple.

Although not sure if I’m down for Ex Nihlio….Not one of Hickman’s best villains if I’m being honest.

  8. Lets hope we will see a guest appearance by Kickers, Inc.

  9. I have no knowledge of the New Universe so this is all new to me!

  10. I was ready to call this the best issue yet, until it devolved into Deodato’s awful psychedelia-battle sequence montage. The Dyson sphere reveal has me intrigued, though — and I can’t wait to go back and decode all the glyph-speak.

    • I felt the same way, I was loving the book and then the Deodato artwork shows up and killed the momentum of the first 3/4s of the book.

    • Me three, the art was ok, but it reall felt like six pages of “yadda-yadda wrap up”.

    • I really feel like Weaver gave his all with this arc though — and in a sense, having Deodate pop up is a good warm up to the next few issues. Can’t say I’m completely stoked that he’s doing art on this, but it should be OK (and Casselli is next, so I can’t complain.) In any case, probably the best art I’ve seen from Weaver…Too bad he couldn’t finish (he’s probably already illustrating INFINITY, now that I think of it…)

That brain stuff on the beach: amazing.

  11. The change from Weaver to Deodato sealed the deal this wasn’t going to be POTW. To be fair, Deodato’s pencils looked pretty good….Until that double page spread which was a cluster fuck to look at. It also didn’t help the coloring was a mess in that as well. In general it was an alright issue but I really am not into this Ex Nihlio guy. Still not a great, well thought out villain for Hickman.

    3/5

    • I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think we’ve got the whole story on Ex Nihilo just yet. The way I’m reading it, he seems more in line with some of Marvel’s cosmic entities than a straight-up villain. Maybe the flipside of the new Captain Universe? She’s supposedly a hero, but because of the “cosmic-ness” it’s difficult to nail down.

  12. I’m apparently going to be in the minority, but I enjoyed the more abstract fight sequence. It was a good way to pull the focus back a bit and review where we are in Hickman’s larger narrative. Has anyone hinted at how long this overall storyline may go?

    • I agree the contrast with Weaver to Deodato gave a much better level playing field in the storytelling. But as others have stated Weaver was working on Infinity at the time as well!

Apparently it will still be going on in Avengers #18 – 23 (drawn by Leinil Francis Yu, yay!) & New Avengers #9 – 12 while also happening in Infinity #1 – 6, so definitely up to the end of the year, after that who knows????

  13. I’m loving this and new avengers right now. I’m going to be double dipping and getting the hardcovers too, I can’t wait to read this in a couple of sessions!

  14. I thought this was a great issue. That ending had me terribly excited. Need to go back and decipher the code.

  15. I was enjoying it so far but I think this is getting to be over my head. I just dont think I am mentally equipped to read any Hickman comics 🙁

  16. Having a very hard time connecting to the material in this book. It hits me like world building with nothing inside of it I care about. It looks like something I should really enjoy. I just can’t get into it.
